XB4 2015 Shorty or Saddle Pack

I predominantly race indoors on carpet and wondering whether I should be running saddle or shorty. Just bought the 2015 spec car having run Schumacher K1 in the past. Any advice would be most welcome.

The majority of us run the car in shorty form, with a kit standard setup. Have a look on xray website at the setups

I've got the 15 and run in shorty still just sorting my setup but is very stable

Isn't there different configurations for the motor and servo etc, if so in shorty setup which side have you put the servo and motor etc. cheers

Thanks for all the replies. Just need a shorty battery pack now. Run saddles previously.

you can run your electrics either side, I use to have my esc and receiver in front of the motor, but I have not moved the receiver to the other side. The movement of your electrics helps for you to balance the car

I ran my XB4 2015 outdoors in shorty for the first time this weekend at the NW Regional, very dry bumpy track and found the car to be very twitchy and seemed to bounce around a lot on the back end, like it needed more weight on the rear.

I did run a few practice laps the week before on the same track in the wet and the car was brilliant even with Yellow mini spikes all round.

Not sure to try the Saddle layout or not??

Yes, on a bumpy track I would always run the saddle layout and add another 25g under each lipo. I would only run the shorty layout somewhere smoothish and high speed & grip. Definitely try saddle lay out. You say it felt great in shorty layout in the wet with yellows on, but I bet if you ran it against the clock it wouldn't be that quick!!

Just add 60g to the rear and u'll be fine with shorty

No, put more time and effort in and try the car in saddles. It will handle differently than just shoving 60g in the back. Otherwise there would be no point in Xray giving the option of different layouts. I am running mine at Oswestry regional this Sunday and am changing to saddles as the track is mixed surface, fairly low grip anyway and it looks like it is going to rain. There's no way if run shorty there with some weight chucked in the back.

With shorty you now have a good amount of weight in the rear, Go a little lighter on the rear and test lowering the rear roll center.

A club mate runs shorty and has gotten the car running great.

You really shouldn't need to change layouts for different conditions. A bit of weight and correct setup changes will be fine.

I started with saddles then tried shorty. Never going back. Car is much better with shorty.

None of the Xray team change between the two layouts and neither do the Yokomo guys. You shouldn't have to do much more than change the Pistons, oil and link lengths - which if have to do anyway in changing layouts

It's still better to try both layouts and make your own mind up, to feel the difference for yourself.

Any more news on this yet?, Birdy I notice you have got your XB4 2015 up for sale, hope you could not get it to run round Bury very well, as I have bought one now and got it set in saddle pack mode, mainly because I have no shorty batteries.
