Default NEW FANTASTIC VENUE FOR HINCKLEY RADIO CONTROLLED CAR CLUB

Hi guys,

Well there has been lots of hard work going on behind the scenes at Hinckley Radio Controlled Car Club and I am pleased to confirm that we will be running our first club meeting on Saturday 14th May at the new venue.

It would be fantastic if you would join us on Saturday to set our season off with a bang so spread the word.

We know that moving to a new venue is no easy task, and as such has been... and will be an ongoing learning experience for us all. We would greatly appreciate any feedback from 'the drivers' on how we can improve our club further and make it one of the best racing venue's in the West Mids region.

We have been working flat out to organize a new 40ft container with a rostrum installed safely on top of it. Many of you that have raced at our club in the past will know that the rostrum was one of the few things that let us down, and so this is an enormous improvement.

We are very proud of our achievements and so wish to wet ur appetite with some sneaky pics of our new rostrum:

We will be painting the rostrum and the container soon to make it look pretty but our main concern was to get it up and working in time for our first meeting on Saturday. A HUGE thank you must go out to Darren and Greg for the hard work they put in... I'm sure you'll agree the construction of the rostrum surpassed everybody's expectations.

The ground itself will be flat grass like we ran at our previous venue - this venue has the added benefit of having additional land next to the track for people to pit close to the action:

We want to keep our track as a grass track as we believe this is our main USP... there aren't many grass tracks around so we were very keen to keep ours. We will in the near future be introducing permanent obstacles within the track such as banked corners, inbuilt table tops and jumps, possible paved sections and astro sections but still maintain the majority of the track as grass... we'll keep all up to date as the track improves over time.

Here is an example of the kind of tracks we used to run at our previous venue to give those who haven't raced with us before a taste of what we have to offer:

I believe we have Tom Yardy and a few friends joining us on Saturday to offer us advice on what improvements to make so the racing standard looks to be high... would be great to see you all there.

Many thanks, Jon Seals!

Hi Jon, Container and rostrum looking very good. Having an 'ON' AND 'OFF' the rostrum set of steps seems a very good idea to me. I would like to say, don't make the track MASSIVE. I am not a fan of these MASSIVE eighth scale tracks, that we then have to run our tiny buggies round!! Otherwise thats about it
Looking forward to your regional coming up soon. See you then.

Looking Awesome Jon!!!

Was gutted i couldn't help out this weekend but I had to take a trip to the US. Hopefully be back in time for Sat....

So looking forwards to getting on track this weekend

Just some extra information for drivers visiting us

We normally meet up around 11.30-12.00 and booking in closes at 12.45 for a 1PM start.

We race 2wd, 4wd, short course 2wd and 4wd and also Quicksilver / Retro (beginners class/fun class) Wewill not turn anyone away who wishes to race but we must have at least 4 cars to make a full heat of the car you have, if we haven't we will mix you in. NO NITRO CARS.

In the past it has taken over an hour to get out the track but now it should be very easy to do it so we will have open practice from track built till 12.55.

Our first regional is in http://www.hinckleyrccc.co.uk/rccalendar/index.htm 4 weeks time and we are not racing on the 28th May.

Ben

Now that looks like a dramatic improvement compared to your old venue, I'm actually looking forward to visiting for the regionals now rather than trying to work out if I could avoid attending for either class.

I have a couple of questions if you don't mind.

About the rostrum how "non-slip" is that deck surface and how high is the gaurd rail? I've been on a few rostrums in the past built on containers which have felt a little unsafe underfoot and a few rails which have been waist height on me (so must be ankle height for some of our racers). From the pictures it looks like you've done a very good job in both these respects but it is hard to be sure from the images alone. As a clinical vertego sufferer I like to consider these things before going to a venue for the first time. There are two venues that I visited when racing 1/8th RallyX that I simply couldn't race at as I didn't feel safe on the rostrum!

When you say "track will be flat grass" I hope it's not too flat, this is off road racing after all and I personally thought your previous venue, understandably due to it's other use, was a little too flat a surface, hardly a bump to be seen.
I don't know if any of your members remember the old Telford school venue or the Perdiswell venue at Worcester but they were great surfaces. Loads of undualations and 'features' without lots of ruts and little in the way of man made "triangle" jumps being necessary.

Overall I think you have taken a real step forward as a club venue wise, congratualtions to all involved and I hope your efforts are rewarded by lots of good racing. See you at the regionals.

For info access is only available from the rugby club the road between the rugby and football clubs has now been blocked off. To get to the track just follow the road round as indicated on the map below

The guard rail is either 1100mm or 1200mm so it's plenty high enough, it also has a toe board and mid rail so you won't fall through.

The surface is galvanised steel sheet which is covered with high grip mesh. It's the same stuff used in industrial gangways so you'll do very well to slip over on it

Hi All,

To Ben, Jon and all the other members at Hinckley, well done and thank-you for all your efforts on your new venue. The rostrum looks excellent and the track area looks great.

I must confess that your previous venue concerned me somewhat - not the quality of track, but more so the banking which led down to it. I always had this fear that if it rained we would have no option but to cancel the event due to safety. No longer an issue.

I know I had told Ben I would attend on saturday but unfortunately I no longer can as something has come up - I have no fears about the venue from what I have seen above, but if someone can take plenty of pics on saturday and send them to me I am happy to pass on any suggestions about the venue if you require.

Thanks a lot, look forward to our visit in a few weeks. Hope all your club members enjoy it for many years to come.

Tom
