We don't get Ansmann very much across the pond (in the USA) if at all. But what I can tell you about other brands - which you may not have learned yet - is that often the kit version of a particular car is different than its RTR counterpart. For instance, the losi RTR comes with a gear diff instead of a ball diff (at least as sold in the USA).
This is likely why people are steering you away from RTR. It may have the same name but parts may be different. Maybe a UK member can comment on the differences between the Ansmann kit and RTR versions.
