B5M Initial turn in
Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone knows how to improve the initial turn in, on a B5M? It is going into a corner and has a lot of under steer, but on the way out it has a lot of over steer..... I've tried different weight combos but it doesn't seem to help. Any help or advice appreciated.

Reduce the trail with the inserts in the kit. Try 2 or 3mm instead of the standard 4mm.
You'll be surprised.

Mine turned in far too aggressively for me on high grip causing it to roll a lot. I switched to the offset caster block bush set and it's miles better.

I'll post the set up this evening if I get a chance to. To be honest...everything on the car is feeling as good as I could imagine an rc car to feel...it's literally the initial turn that's giving me an issue. I have to slow down way beyond what everyone else seems to be doing, just to get that first bite into the corner.
The inserts are on 3mm, so in the middle. I was going to try the 4mm ones, but I wasn't sure what way to go with it. I'll pop in the 2mm and see if that helps. To be fair....it could just be my driving!

I have the same issue, I added some weight in front of the servo but am yet to run it with this change. It might give it some more bite on turn in or over steer I'm not sure yet.

Weight, springs and offset bushes calmed mine down.

Yes those are the ones. I put the big one at the bottom and small at the top.

2mm inserts did the trick! Big improvement in results today The car feels great and is turning as I want it to. No other changes were made to the set up.
I've also turned the turbo off...it was just too aggressive on a technical track lay out. Great on the straight, but on the in-field it was just too easy to get into trouble.... Thanks to everyone for the advice! and to mr.Cryer for helping me sort the esc out!

I had to turn my turbo off as well as it was just to powerful. My b44 was just full power off the line and it was fine but the b5m with no turbo and mid boost will try and flip! I've lossent the slipper and it helped a bit but I am still able to pull a wheelie if needed. Overall its a great car and very easy to drive.

It might be better on a larger track so the turbo/boost/timing really get a chance to do their thing, but for the smaller more technical track at Mendip, it was just too much. Personally, I like having as much power as possible at my finger tips, but the wiser and more experienced guys at the track were right when they told me it would be too much. I took it off and knocked my average lap time down by 2 seconds! Less power (apparently)= More speed! Who would have thought!?!

mine turned in very aggressively on a yellow front spring/white rear. It pushed exiting corners too. Swapped to Red front and it calmed down the turn in and gave it a little more exit steering.

I've ordered the front pin holder and added a bit of weight in front of the servo so I hope this with slove the problem or at least help a bit. I found with the b5m I'm having to go very slow into the corner as I'm finding that the initial bite is poor but when it bites it really bites, at the track I race at there is a blind spot mid way though the corner so I find it is hard to get right. Not sure if this is down to my setup or my (rubbish) driving style.

We have a guy at our club whos is having the same problem, i drove his car yesterday and the turn in was fine, but im a lot more aggresive on the brakes and throttle on entry and exit of corners, the car felt very planted and easy to drive

Dicky is right I am having loads of steering going in but it pushes wide coming out not enough grip but I am going to try different set up to combat this if not I will go back to the base set up and then change one thing at a time, such was my frustration yesterday that at the time it was being sold and a kf was being ordered but in the calm of the storm I will keep going I think the b5m has great potential if you can get it set up right for each track you race on but it will take time as it's still relatively a new car and set up are individual to your racing style so what works for me my not for someone else. Oh almost forgot I am running the offset top hats with the biggest one on the bottom and it made a improvement . |

Now I've changed the inserts in the caster blocks to make the wheels go as far forward as possible, it is even from entry to exit.... I also had an issue with the rear end 'bobbling' but, by putting the black spring on the rear and using a 25wt oil in the shocks AND having the brass bits on the back it is smoooooth. I literally can't shake it now. The car is set up exactly as I like it, so the rest is down to my driving I can't say that my set up will work for everyone, but it has made a dramatic improvement to my qualifying and my over finishing results.... RHR this weekend will be a good test If it goes well there, I'm hoping it will be good for just about anything that I can throw at it!
