Your the MG guru. As mentioned to you that new motor i had a 14 double and was ace. That was my first modified motor and started me off with a bang.

Just found a 17t delta It is quite tricky to make out the writing on the can... Would this have been hand wound?

Opened the can to give it a clean and found some info on the armature. Turns out it wasn't '17 del'. It's a Brown Dot 17 dbl

Question MG Motor BROWN DOT - 88

I've just bought a really nice KOYOSHO (Boxed) (Unused but made-up) Optima Mid Custom Special - I have one back in the day. Now it comes with an MG Motor (new/unused) - what's the deal with them? I had a guy contact me for it. I'm not overly bothered about it - but if its a really good motor I'd like to use it (maybe) - is there a better (faster?) vintage motor (OEM?) I should use.

Sorry if I'm being dim, I looked online , but can find nothing on them.

Standard class MG from 1988. Certainly one of the best standard motors of the period. As you can see i collect them. If you want (much) faster then the MG modified range is the way to go. These were the basic 15pound motor MG sold and their range went up to 40pound full blown modifieds. I will send you some information - check your private messages.

Note the ROAR JAPAN can also.

The pink versions are from '93 so they were still going in the standard class at that time. Here's an article featured in August '93 RRC showing the start of the standard A Final in the top picture. That must have been one of my last races as my car is still virtually unchanged from that picture.
Reading the RRC report brought back a memory for me - Olly Carnelly used to race at my local club, Brinsworth Buggy Club - which then became known as Rotherham Buggy Club as we left Brinsworth and flitted around for a while before settling at Rawmarsh until I discovered beer and women, and packed in.

I thought I had an MG red dot BITD, but looking at those photos it was nothing like it and had a small coloured dot - maybe a Reedy now I think?

I had a few black can / red holo Demon motors too, a 19 quad and 27 single, and a 16 triple which had a flouro orange endbell and sticker - seem to recall it was an SRM Racing one?

Sorry for crashing your MG thread but it triggered a few fuzzy memories.

I have chatted to Olly quite a bit recently - a well known name from bitd.

I think most of the old racers will have had a Demon or two at one time or another. I have my original 27T Single and the 16Triple I raced with back then, and recently picked up a gold label Power King (although I must admit i don't recall the gold ones....) I have a fair number of SRM Scorchers which were Race Prep based motors. Almost all of mine are standard 27turns (Screamer was a 28T), but they did do a modified Scorcher range too. I have yet to find one of those.

If you had one of the very VERY early Red Dots like this one, they came with a black can and a gold MG 'Buggy Special' label. Not so many of these about now but they did have a 'Dot' so perhaps that is what you remember?

Default MG / Demon

I had both those Demons - in my OMCS - I cant remember which I used - I think the Gold one as it was better (?). I was in Cornwall/Devon - so never a member of a club. I just got old second hand parts where I could. THere were no shops locally and no Internet. I'm guessing the parts were 2-4 years old by the time I got them.

Dinglem - Thank you! The orange one was indeed an SRM Scorcher so must have been my 27T for std class racing, the Demon was definitely a 19 quad as I ran that in my Optima then Mini Mustang, so I now realise I have no idea what the 16 triple was I ran in my RC10 - possibly another Demon?

And yes - that was also the other motor I had, exactly like that with the "Buggy special" on it and the small dot sticker.

Small world - say hello to him from me - will PM you.
