That's what he's paid for. MB is the erudite one, DC is the intelligent one, TK is the nosey one and JH is the spare part. That's what you need in all commentary teams these days when you have wall-to-wall coverage of a sport. Just check out any of the footie programmes and you'll find all those characters. EJ is no different to Alan Hanson ("you can't win anything with kids", "Liverpool will win the league" (in 2009/10) and "Chelsea will win the Champions League" (in 2009). He's no less of a Mr Angry than EJ, and that's his role for the BBC. Love EJ or hate him, people aren't switching off because of him, and he creates a lot of interest for F1 and the BBC's coverage. Hell, anyone who can be in that sport for 10 years and leave with over £30m can't be a fool!!

Have to agree I found it a bit boring too. This stupid no refueling rule has taken the edge off. Cant think of one good point or decent overtake from the race, they were all too busy taking care of the tyres.

I still rate this as one of the best moments in F1, no refuelling back then so who knows, this season could still become exciting!

i have to say that was the most gash race i have ever seen!! there was little to no overtaking that wasnt reliability related issues. and it just turned out to be a prosesion from start to finnish. the rules they have added over the last few years may have paved the way for the new teams into the sport but it really has limited the technilogical advancements in my view

Damn right!
Refuelling has only been in F1 for the last 15 years or so, so before that we had awesome racing year in year out. Hopefully it will get better. I don't rate the Bahrain track anyway, I always found it a boring race even in the 'refueling era'. I think australia will be a totally different ball game (as it always is...which is why it was sooo good as a season opener, because its usually exciting) because that is not a permanent track. I did find the race extremely boring today after the first few laps. They need to make the tyres harder and get rid of this stupid rule saying that you HAVE to change tyres during the race. So that drivers aren't just 'plodding' round looking after tyres, and give people the option to actually go straight through to the end if they want. OR reduce wing size (again) and leave the tyres to provide the grip....lik they did in the old days. :P But in the end, the cars are still producing too much aerodynamic downforce and grip. Which is why you saw drivers getting really close to others (making you think we were going to get a good scrap!)....only to drop back because they have no downforce. |

Personally I blame the qualifying / grid system for the lack of overtaking.
In order to overtake the car behind needs to be able to lap faster than the one in front. But the current qualifying system puts fastest car on the front of the grid and the slowest one at the back . Why would you expect a slower car to be able to overtake a faster one in front? Todays's race was one of the most boring I've ever seen. I say stop messing with the technical rules and find a way to start the fastest cars at the back. |

So how would that work. I cant see lewis and co going flat out to get a place at the rear of the grid. Everyone would crawl round to get pole.
