Default 210 set up changes - the effects?

I am still relatively new to racing and have little to no experience of setting up my car. I have always got by from copying set ups of the top drivers, but now I want to be able to do more than that. I want to be able to understand why I am making the changes and the effects they have so I can formulate my own set ups.

So using the 210 set up sheet as a guide, what effect does it have if I :

Front -
Change the castor angle?
Raise or lower the rear outer ball stud on hub?
Change between trailing or inline axle?
Change between inner and outer hole for camber link on hub?
Change between inner and outer hole for camber link on shock tower?
Raise or lower the ball stud on inner camber link?
Standing up or laying down the shock on the shock tower?
Standing up or laying down the shock on the wishbone?
Changing between front, centre or back holes on steering link?

Back -
Changing between holes 1,2,3,4 on camber link on hub?
Raise or lower the height of ball stud on inner camber link?
Standing up or laying down the shock on the shock tower?
Standing up or laying down the shock on the wishbone?
Changing the amount of kick up?

If any of the Team Durango guys (or anyone else who knows) can explain to me the effects of the above changes it would be very much appreciated! Copying a set up is ok, but when it doesn't work for me then I want to know what effects each attribute has so I can fine tune the set up to suit my own needs!

Thanks very much in advance!!

Here is a page that will answer all or at least most of your question: http://www.petitrc.com/index.php?page=setup_guide. This includes Elvo guide which is concidered as THE reference regarding RC car handling.

Thanks guys, just checked out all three suggested links and they are all a big help for someone like me!

I'm not going to pretend that I understand all of it by any means, but they are certainly a good start.

One I don't get is the 'angled links', what does this mean? And also how do you measure whether the front or rear is more angled?

The best thing you can do is try the changes yourself so you understand the effect. Do it at a practice day or club meeting and change one thing at a time, make the change pretty big so it's easy to notice, and perhaps keep changing that adjustment for a couple of runs as sometimes when you go too far an adjustment starts having a different effect.

Wise words as always James!

I've made one significant change to the car from last weekend so I'll see how it goes tomorrow....

My experience is not to stare blind at the "big guys" setups.
We all have different driving styles, i never copy anyones setup. Take your time and practice alot, make small chances and see if you find the car better or not.
Only you know if you find the car better for you or not. You should listen to more experienced guys at your club, learn more about setups and try their tips, but what they find good don't always work good for others.

What you is completely true, as I have found out from experience. I have had more than one national standard driver set up my car and every time I have struggled with it. Once I changed a few small things it was better for me. That's clearly nothing against the guys who kindly helped me, but what works (very well!) for them didn't work so well for me...
