Default New to GT12 help required plz!

hi guys,

totally new to this so bear with me!

right, the Turnigy Trackstar 80a esc i run in my TC apparently will work with a voltage booster for the rx on 1s.

the thing i'm struggling to work out is where and how do i connect the voltage booster?? does it go inline with the cable from the esc to the receiver??

any links to videos etc on this would be great. ill get a 1s esc but i'm trying to keep cost to a minimum as this is new for all at the club. im hoping it will take off! ;-)

cheers

Gordy!

I used the hobbyking one as was about 3 pound and worked and still works fine even using spektrum and savox full size servo and just soldered two wires straight onto battery wires then plug into speedo, only issue is it bypasses the on off switch so powers up as soon as plug battery in

I running the hobbyking 120a speedo with booster it seems to be working ok not tried it yet on track but as above it does do away with the on off switch, and u need a 2s lipo to use the programming card and turn the cut off off, just make sure u have the switch turned on or it doesn't work properly
Hope that helped

People run....

LRP SXX v2/Nosram Pearl v2 (both now only available used), Hobbywing 120A v2.1 (used only); Hobbywing 120A v3.1; Turnigy; Core RC; G Force 120A 1S.

There's a spread of pricing on those. Arguably the biggest bang for your buck is either a used HW 120A v2.1 or a new G Force - both very popular at GT12 Nationals. HTH

is there any specific setup or tyres you would run on this, also ,what additive would i be best using!!

cheers again!!

Gordy! (p.s i ran a 13.5 with 2s shorty but wasn't even half throttling it and it was wheel spinning

Gordon

Couple of guys at the club have tried 2s 13.5 just for fun, they are too quick to race on the size of track you have.

If you had no grip I guess you were running with no additive, which will be the bulk of your problem, with that amount of power.

Use a 1s battery as the class is designed and see how you get on. There's lots of advice out there, but my best advise is try visiting one of the clubs that race GT12 as the main class, DDRCC are a Sunday evening or Lothian every 2nd Friday night.

DDRCC are holding regular car clinics where we have an experienced racer explain a subject matter in detail, and is available that night to help. Every other week we race there is plenty of experienced racers available to help with any aspect of the racing.

You'll learn far quicker getting help at a club.

Smile Recevier packs..

Does anyone run or know of anyone that runs a receiver pack in GT12? Thoughts guys? Does it add unnecessary weight to the car? OR if placed carefully can it be used as ballast?

Thanks for all the helpful input so far! Am just thinking out loud

Far better with a 1s compatible speedo or voltage booster such as hobbywings or rcdynamics. One less thing to check

Default GT12 esc

Quite a few are now using the SkyRC Toro 1s, very similar to the Hobbywing V3.1 1s and G Force 1s, well they are all from the same factory!
The Toro is the cheapest though but does not come setup in 'blinky' mode so you need the optional program box too.

NinjaG - I guess you and the 2S lying around, but it is underivable with that amount of torque. Half-throttle is no good in a device that produces maximum torque at zero revs!

Take the advice above - 1S cell, Spider Blue additive (although I prefer SXT - cheaper and better) and appropriate tyres. Did you say what car you are running?

If it's a Schumacher GT run 35 rear and 50 front to start with. At high-grip Nationals we get to 40 rear and 47 front. If it's a Zen RSGT12 then 35 rear and 50 front, going to 37 rear and 45 front for high grip. Start with inner half of the front tyre covered in additive, and the whole width of the rears. As Mark says, 30 mins rears, 15 mins front. On a club night have a spare set of tyres on hand so you can treat them while you race the others.

Not true, hobbywing are made by hobbywing, skyrc is made by skyrc and gforce is made by skyrc.

Look at national tech charts on what addative the top guys use

For a SupaStox it would be 37 rear 50 front, changing to 40 rear when the grip comes up. Yes, SXT 3.0 is the one to use. HTH
