Default hobbywing LCD program box

Im tearing my hair out here.
I bought the above program box
connected it to the ESC, it wont work says I have to update the software

had to borrow a laptop, I only have a phone, no pc etc

hobbywing usb link software downloaded

connect the box and esc etc, get a message on screen saying to upgrade my software, I click update and it says I have latest version..

WTF

20 odd quid on a box you cant use out the box.

am I doing something stupid wrong?

hoping to take the car to its first race meeting tomoro but cant program the ESC

which box do you have there are two versions, and which speedo, as some are not compatable, too late now but the wifi module is far better as no need for a pc

Multifunction LCD didn't work on my 10BL120, only the LED programmer.
