After backing with white I add a coat of clear lacquer and then where the body will rub / touch I use gaffa tape to protect.
Some people use cricket bat tape, but I found it varied in stickiness

Do you use automotive lacquer thought about this myself just wasn't sure if it would eat into the paint or not

Halfords clear lacquer is popular, but spray it on too thick/too close and it will eat into and crack the water based acrylics. A few threads on here that I've looked at as I recently wondered the same thing. Best advice I read was a couple of thin coats of Halfords Clear Lacquer and dry it immediately with a heater/hairdryer. Had no problems using this method.
Forgot to add; let the acrylics cure for at least 24hrs before applying the lacquer. Last edited by Verde; 18-04-2018 at 08:02 PM. |

+1 for the halfords lacquer, did have a bad experience with some Core RC spray can paint, sprayed myself a winter shell all florescent orange, backed with Core white, then lacquer. Craked like a bugger then started to flake off the shell within a week but never had a problem with anything airbrushed

I use Halfords lacquer as well as the Lidl clear lacquer. I warm shell slightly with hairdryer then put a fine spray on then warm and dry and repeat. No issues with cracking or flaking
