I'm trying to nail down a setup for the X6^2 on a predominantly polished wood track.

It's on mini-spikes f/r, standard astro setup, Losi shocks, and already going well thanks to a tip about running a bit of toe-out. I'd still like more turn-in for the tight corners - would more anti-squat and setting the front camber link to it's longest (inner hole) be the best place to start?

I'm guessing the best front shock position is inner hole on the tower?

Ellis, could you post your setup / any findings for the Area 51 race?

Thanks.

Cheers, with the T LiPo layout, which way up was the T?

Having the front brass did the overall weight distribution end up further forward than 35/65?

The X6 seems to generate so much forward traction, I've been thinking of moving mass forwards.

Top of the T is at the back in the stick pack area with the other part in the forward cell area.

Yeah way more front weight and a lot less overall weight than it used to run at.

It's an easier mod than the saddle configuration, less material to remove. I presume the speed controller has to go to one side now?

Yep, speedo one side receiver PT other side, I think it looks a lot nicer to be honest than the saddle layout.

Also you can go back to stick across the rear without doing anything which can be helpful outdoors if it suddenly rains.

You have to be careful though not to take too much of the aerial mount away.

How do you retain the cells? I've been looking at various layouts that will hold my fat 31mm high saddles without fouling the shell. Might need to make a custom set of straps.

LIPO's are held in with our Carbon Fibre battery strap designed for NIMH type cells (XF1224), this is ideal for the job.

Ellis has also added some small alloy posts to the underside of his to stop any possible side to side movement on impact etc

I did mine with just a screw and nut coming down from the battery brace, conviniently the spacing of the letters means you can get it just right and retain securley. I used some of the RMWB cone washers and nuts with a screw so it looks pretty stealth (note they aren't on the pic below).

Just to echo you need to be carefull not to remove too much of the serial mount, or relocate it somewhere.

I wonder if anyone can help solve a handling issue I may or may not have. Please consider that this is probably due to my driving (in)ability.

I am using the setup attached on my X6 sqd. with new cut staggers, and new yellow minispikes.

Running at RHR, entering the sweeper at the end of the straight, in the latter part of the corner, the back of the car would slide slightly (lifting inside rear wheel) scrubbing off speed.

Coming out of a hairpin, accelerating medium / hard the inside wheel will lift, rear of the car scrubbing sideways slightly (as if the outside front / rear is collapsing and lifting the inside rear and diffing out).

I imagine Im not using the smoothest lines, but is there anything I can do to prevent this in my setup?

Thanks in advance.

Can you repost setup in older version of word please?

Three things having not seen the setup, weight balance front rear, anti roll bar rear and I was not a big fan of cut staggers at RHR. They were far to much when I tried them last year, old style staggers (any usually not even new ones) were my front tyre of choice.

Hi Dan,

The word document is attached again here.

Regarding your thoughts:

Weight balance - can you explain how this maybe causing this behavior? I am running Rudebits weight kit, with all weights loaded behind servo, and weight under speedo with saddle pack config. I was thinking I could do with removing some of the servo weight.

I'll try unpopping the roll bar.

And I'll try regular stagger ribs at RHR, just out of interest, what front tyre will you be starting on at Stotfold if dry?

Thanks again. Chris.

Ref staggers then I'll be on old style staggers at Stofold (assuming it's dry) and would be on pretty much most astro. The cut stagger I think have more grip (too much front balance for me) and can be quite grabby. I've heard the centro is quite understeery so they need the cut stagger, or it suits that car more anyway but for me doesn't suit the X6.

If the rear is collapsing then I'd stiffen it with a red spring and increase to a 1.2mm roll bar (this is my standard roll bar, I found anything much less and I couldn't feel the difference on track). As your going to normal staggers anyway if this gives you more steering it shouldn't be too much of an issue. I also ran 32.5wt oil front and rear mostly last year on staggers, this is a slight increase to the rear which will probably match the red spring better.

Lastly don't be afraid of running your diff tighter than normal. For years I ran my diff only just tight enough that it wasn't slipping but now I run it tighter again by choice. This is particularly the case in 4wd to be fair but also counts in 2wd.

Lastly ref weight you'll see in the other thread I'm going to try a stubby pack in my car this year to lighten it up a bit. Went well at Bury on Sunday though time will tell if this works better for me everywhere.

Thanks Dan for the comprehensive reply.

I'll be trying a few of your suggestions, though it looks like Stotfold will be my testbed. I'll start on standard stagger ribs, and I'll tighten the diff a little.
I'll look to go to 32.5 weight in the rear, and reduce servo weight as the day goes on.
Thanks again.

Dan's pretty much covered most of it Chris.

We are both going in to new lipo layouts and running less weight in the cars but with more forward bias which seems to be pretty good so far, although the real test will be Stotfold national.

Just to add, at Bury on the weekend I had a Trishbits brass front bulkhead, front brace and a weight on top so total nose weight about 65g
