Default Front hub upgrade

I seem to have a talent for breaking front hub carriers on my Cougar SV.

I have seen somewhere that B4 ones will fit but do I have to make any modifications or are they a straight swap?

If I do put on B4 parts how about alloy parts? has anyone done this?

If I doo beef up these parts is it likely to cause strain further up the system ie servo when the car gets a knock?

Cheers

Jim

I've tried the associated front end and it does fit but with alot of modification. Its not any stronger than the Shumi parts, they broke just the same. What I did find is that the 5 degree front hub doesn't break as easy. Also try removing the dog leg ball cup, install a longer ball with 2mm washer and a standard ball cup. With these two mods I rarely break anymore....unless I'm hitting walls

Not stronger?

The associated part is much stronger, especially now the B4 part has superceded to the B4.1 item.

I gave up running the schuey parts and now only use the associated item as they are so much better, not to mention half the price!

Regarding installing the B4 part, all you need to do is use a 4/40 bolt with a long shank to pass through the carrier (b4 gearbox screws work well) and then thread it into the lower part of the carrier. (You can add a locknut but its not really needed)

This way they are pretty much a direct replacement. (you can also machine a small section away for more lock if you want, but its still a very minor mod)

Are guys that are breaking the front hub also not running a servo saver?

We stopped breaking hubs after we installed servo savers... they save more then just servos... just saying

Cheers for the replies so far guys.

x313 - did you just change the hub carriers or did you change the yokes as well.

TKG26 - I'm not running a servo saver, I've looked at the mod but not considered trying it yet - could be the answer but was looking to see if there was just a straight bolt on mod I could do 1st and the B4 hub carriers sounds easiest - you never know may need to do that if I beef up the hub carriers and starts to cause problems further up the steering.

Going back to my origional post anyone tried alloy parts?

Just the yoke, the schumacher axle is pretty much identical to the associated part so it just drops straight in.

will try and upload a piccy so you can see how simple it is...

Poor quality picture attached...

As you can see, associated part installed without mods. (Just a 4/40 screw)

There is no need to drill the carrier either, it will just thread itself through the carrier. Spacer is the same as used with the schuey parts.

The associated part uses a 4/40 originally, so its just replacing like for like.

The caster block is the std schuey part. (5 degree in this case)
