The problem with the D4 is there quite an old model and not many people run them so you might have problems getting spare parts and advice on set ups

Hope this helps....

Get the WCE slipper if it's not on there. Standard one is awful!

Make sure you use the titanium diff bolts as the standards are, again, awful. The diffs by and large need a lot of tlc, but I found ceramic for the thrust and steel for the diff was a better combination.

They're the two main things that stopped me finishing races, or would change the cars handling dramatically throughout 5mins with huge inconsistencies.

(I put durango geared diffs in mine to stop the diff issue altogether.)

Rest of of it is track dependant. Start with kit set up and work your way from there.

Why does everyone have to take the piss?

Why can't you just help the bloke. If you cannot, don't want to, don't know, then just don't reply !

I'm all for banter, but sometimes, some take it too far.

It may be an old buggy, but perhaps he got it for a good price and will help him get into this class of racing.

Perhaps a B44, DEX410 etc etc are just way too much for someone wanting to dip their toe in or just plain don't have the money some of you have.

Help or don't bother.

The only real 'problem' I found when I had a D4 was HPI/HB and the lack of support. That was when it was still in production!
Never had any diff problems, and never really found the slipper an issue with either version (ran original and WCE versions) but I did find the front shock tower rather fragile. Beefing up the tower just meant it snapped front bulkheads instead. Since HPI rarely imported D4 spares, that meant a wait of several weeks for replacements.

If the car has a couple of spare front towers and bulkheads, its pretty much sorted. Although its now considered an older model, technically its based around the same platform as the B44 and is quite capable of competing with it.

Rumour has it the Caster SK10 is based off the D4 and D4 parts fit it. If this is true (and I can't say either way) then Caster spares might solve the D4 parts issues.

ok wise ass... your jumping to conclusions.

His post says what can he do to make it better........
Well I had a d4 and it was a good car, just could not get bits, in answer to his question to make it better i got a durango and a b44. Now if you want to come on telling others what to do, fine, I'd advise not doing it to those giving honest replies.

I run a d4, and also ran a durango and a b44 as well.

sold the b44 and durango, so now you know how good these HB cars are.

No problem with parts. You can order from amainhobbies in the US. I was anticipating alot of broken front gear box cases, so ordered 10x, but so far no broken cases.

I dont have a problem with the WCE diffs. Its a nice solid car, I wish people would give it the respect it deserves. The car did well in the hands of the US and JAP team drivers.

i know there good, as my post i had one for two years, there not as good as the current cars as they had no development, to say spares is ok as u can get them from the usa, well you can get spares for the easilly in the uk or trackside.
yup they were good in usa, japan on dirt tracks, but are we not in the uk?
at the time the top on top d4 driver/developer was adam skelding, now a top man at durango, enuff said....

Mark, i'm no wise ass as you call me.

But i certainly wouldn't reply to a thread with the answer you gave. What help was that exactly ?

If you could not actually help with proper advise, just don't bother.

As it is now you have given some advise, sort of, even though it was in retaliation to me.

Would have been nicer to just do that in the first case, don't you think.

Thought we were in the Off-Road section where everyone was chilled out more and helped out each other, not in the TC section where people seem to just have to be an ass.

Ignore anything what Col tells you. He has to get his boyfriend to spanner his cars cos he is the bitch in the relationship, and is more accustomed to doing the more femine things, like cooking ironing etc.
