has any body played with the ackerman angle what are peoples thoughts on this.

I heard at the weekend that someone had (cant remeber name!) as i was told to go see them for the correct angle for my S44, people were running the steering arms linear but im unsure what affect this has, calms the car a down bit maybe?

we run are center link 1mm wider than kit set up,

I'm tring to find some info on Cat SX ackerman settings pro / con's can anyone help? Turnbuckle set at 8mm at the mo (standard setting)

there is some stuff about it in the sx2 set up threads, but it's buried in the middle somewhere, think the general thought is to run it between 8 and 11mm, but thats just from memory

I widened mine out too 4mm over kit (i.e. just over 12mm) and it drastically cut down the amount of initial bite from the steering. To such a point that it waasnt competitive.
Bacck to kit standard now (think its 8.6mm off top of head ) - much better initiall steerinng and mid-corner ability.

I have run 1 mm les than kit and that works verry wel on a dirt track .
at the moment running it 1mm wider than kit to get more steering in ticht turns . tom runs a compleet diferent akkerman bud that is still a test .
think you chould run it to wat gives you a nice feeling in the car.

Trying to get my head around how it will change steering when the length is changed.....if it's made longer the outside wheel will move further out and the inside wheel will move less, and vice virca, so I would have thought lengthening it would give you more direct steering?

I think that is correct John.

It was the opposite for me because of the distances involved.
Guys on here are talking about the difference of 1mm in length having an effect. I wailed in without knowing much and changed it over 4mm longer!

I think this made the wheels so different in direction that the car was trying to steer in two directions at once, and therefore ended up just understeering everywhere!

look at it this way . at the end point the inside weel will always steer the same amount as it stops against the yoke . so the only thing thats diferent is the amount the outer weel is turning . bud there is a diference aswell during the travel to make it to that point and wat I found out was like I told in my previus post . bud its a bit independent from driving style sort tracks and so on and so on . so its actualy a bit personal . there is nothing rong on the oridginal settings and I would look at it like a extra setup option to suit your driving styles . hope this helps greets
