I have attached photos of the ZX-R I bought off ebay. Its in very good condition, a bit dusty but all the screw heads are in great condition and the bearings are smooth. The wishbone pivots are alloy too.

The left hand knuckle is broken, I have a spare one but was wondering if the ZX-5 ones fit? Think I read they fit but need a little filing, should be easy enough.

The motors seem OK, maybe a little notchy so they may need servicing, any tips? Not done much with motors yet.

I'm not a fan of the silver wheels, got 4 rears, any idea what they are off?

I've ordered new belts and blue steering so let the cleaning and reviving commence.

P.S. I'm working away so the 'lovely' table lamp and table is the hotels not mine.

You can design so that the spur gear IS a fan. So whenever the spur gear turns its blowing wind on the motor plate.

Use a grinder to grind off about 2mm from the top of the zx-5 knuckle and it will go right in. The ZX-5 knuckle is also more durable than the OT-16 ones.

Cheers.

Yeah, I've been sourcing parts and dismantling ready for the clean up. It has been cared for (on the spoiler it says 'Phil May Racing Team'). I spoke to him and he said he'd won plenty of races with it but was more into his helicopters and planes now and the ZX-R had been collecting dust.

Whilst looking at this one I have noticed the UJs on my other car are worn and not sure whether to go with replacement W5061's or go down the route of LA245's. I have bought some VZW010's already though, so may try the LA245's.

I've done a bit of searching and earlier in this thread it says about taking the ZX-5 knuckles to 19mm in height. I'll get the file out at some point and sort it.

Should be a good looking car. Might try and take the paint of this shell too, will see how successful that is......

Still searching for suitable shocks too, shame its just missing the one.

Go the kyosho rebuildable ujs as they have a lot less slop. Shocks get the blue velvet kyosho ones as they wete used at the end of the zxrr run so wont be too far from the original design, other than the colour which is better than the dark colour and gold colour shocks at that time.

Knuckle arms I prefer the alloy zx version, much stronger and sern a lot on ebay

I've seen the alloy zx knuckles on ebay, they are on often, may have a go at getting some of them and then I'll be able to try both out.

Think I'll get the LA245's then, if they're rebuildable then that has always got to be better, i.e. for getting replacement parts.

I'll have a look for the shcoks too. Will probably be a steady rebuild as ever due to available funds etc. Can't go splurging too much dosh all at once.....

Do the blue velvet shocks have a gold body? If not do you have a pic and can you still get them new?

I have seen standard bore velvets with gold bodies and blue caps on each end on eBay. I think all the velvets I found on eBay had a gold body, I might need to try a different search.

The evo shocks were the first version back in the 90's and were a variety of colours, Ellis Stafford had black ones on his, I had silver with gold caps and also had blue (which were also on the ZXS protos in 93/94) so is possible you can find them. Let me know what you find and send me a link via PM.

Now that's a great start! Loads of N.I.P stuff... I suppose one of the cars is a Lazer ZX-Sport?

i havnt got a clue as to whether it is a zx sport or not, i'm guessing the one with the black shocks is a sport,

anyhow i'm knackered now and been doing this for about 4 hours,

i used new arms, hubs, gearboxes, belts, bearings and i rebuilt the ball diffs before putting them in, plus i used a whole new screw kit i had NIP so the screws all looked spot on

its not spot on as the chassis was used but i've done as much as i could for today, i'll finish it tomorrow,

lots of pics here,

3 pics below showing what i've done so far,
