Hauler/carry bag, storage boxes and tools.

Just wondering where the best place would be to get all the stuff in the title for cheap. Which make of tools would be best.

I use EDS or Hudy tools but they are quite expensive to buy individual to start with, you'll probably only need allen drivers 1.5, 2.0mm possibly 2.5 and 3mm and hex drivers 5.5mm and 7.0mm. I have used cheaper drivers but personally felt that the heads rounded off quicker. Hauler bags I bought mine off another racer so might be worth putting and ad in the wanted section.

As Lee said, hauler bags try and find a used one, however I have recently moved away from the racing hauler bags altogether as they all have issues, some break their zips easily some break the handles easily, I have recently moved to Ogio 9800 rig bags(around £140), if you shop around they are only a few pounds more than most decent hauler bags but will last you a lot longer.

Tools wise you can buy multi drivers, so you just have 1 handle and just keep changing the tip to what you need, this is a little more time consuming but saves money in the begining.

You also don't have to keep up with the jones's and have all the race branded tools and bags. I know many people who have and still do use basic tools from general tool shops and Cheap bargain shops, depending on how much kit you want to carry there's lots of options in B&Q and other hardware places to use in place of a hauler bag, many people use the rolling tool boxes.

Its all down to how you want to go racing

The main point is to enjoy racing and that can't be done if you're going round the track worried about the bill at the end of the month

After nearly 15 years of racing I have tried most types of race carrier from the poly butler to 1/4" ply lined Dunlop sports bag , never run the ogio 9800 though, finally took the plunge to buy a hauler a few years ago, I couldn't get on with it personally, now I carry most of my stuff in a JCB work bag from b&q it has a hard bottom , as for tools you get what you pay for but if you shop around you can get some bargains , currently have some arrowmax ,RB ,fastrax, and my favourite some HARD racing tools ,

I have learnt when buying spares for racing to leave with the header card on ,if you ever want to sell them it puts a much higher value on them, I run two 4 litre hard plastic storage boxes for spares and running gear , 2 hard plastic pencil cases from Tesco for tools ,

Fishing tackle boxes are good for the spare screws , pinions etc.

Each to their own in this hobby ,but my current load race case Inc hard plastic storage cases would set me back £40/£45 if I had to buy it all again tomorrow.

It really is each to there own...

Tuning Haus do a nice set of hex drivers and a carry case or Corally do a smart 12 in 1 tool, with metric and imperial hex driver and a Philips and flat head screw driver trip, all are stored neatly in the handle.

Corally also make a great pit case, with 4 parts boxes, underlid storage big enough for a charger or transmitter or both perhaps and lid storage boxes with movable dividers and cubed foam to make everything secure.


I've always stayed away from some of the larger hauler bags partly as they wouldn't always fit in my car, but also that I didn't want to have all my RC gear in one place should something unfortunate happen.

I'd like a polybutler pit box myself , at the moment I just use a cheap plastic tool box

For what it's worth you may be better off getting something purpose made for the job, I started off with getting tool boxes etc from Bnq , did the job but always something not quite right or could be improved on , in the end I would have saved some money if I'd just bitten the bullet and bought a purpose made box / hauler. I now have the corally pit box which is great. Keep an eye on oople sale section as there are always people changing brands and you can pick up cheaper storage kit that way.

For what it's worth, the Fastrax haulers are junk. The zips, draws and handles don't last 5 minutes if you put a bit of gear in it. I splashed out on the Hudy hauler 18 months ago and it's been brilliant. It's not cheap but everything still works as it should do and it holds a lot of gear. On the down side it won't fit in my car boot so I have to put it on a picnic blanket on the back seat. I'd definitely buy it again over the Ogio bag.

Most of my wrenches are arrowmax and they have been excellent for the price. The other tools are bits of all sorts.

Avoid the fastrax hauler at all costs, even free ones... they are terrible and a total waste of money. parts of mine were replaced 3 times in a year, outer zips failed multiple times, handle failed twice. just avoid.

I'm on an ogio 9800 now and its fantastic. its perhaps not as convenient as a hauler, as you need separate tool/parts bags and boxes inside, but for me it carries way more than the hauler did, and in an easier to manage/roll/carry package.

I use an arrowmax tool bag for my main tools that go on the table top, which has been awesome. still going strong after 2 years use. its used most days and is always on my desk at home when i'm not racing.

I don't think I've missed anything, but it works for me. I found the hauler far too bulky to carry upstairs, and just awful in the back of my car, where as the ogio sits nice and low.

iv only just started racing and this bag is great, i can carry extension lead, fan, thin toolbox for parts, all my tools, car..etc.... then it gives me two spare hands to carry my pit table and transmitter box, i highly recommend it

Nice one, it's a great backpack and surprising how much you can take in it, obviously if you was going to do like a weekend racing then you would need more space, but for track nights it's ideal,

I have not used one of these but from my experience with hauler bags they are overpriced and over rated. If you go a little more on the budget go for a Ogio 9800 rig bag it will out last any hauler by far, also comes with lifetime warranty on zips as far as I am aware
