Default Grease and bearings for the supastox

Hi there. Baught a new diff for my supastox. I have been recommended to rebuild it strait away. To do so I need I think three different tipes of grease/lube to do so. Can anyone recommend an all rounder or know where I can get some cheep?! Also when taking the front wheels off noticed two of the bearings came apart. Is there any difference in bearings? Where's best to buy thease. Will soon be racing again eventually!!!

As far as greases are concerned you do need to use the correct grease in the correct place, see me tonight and I will go through it with you.

Bearings are often a "get what you pay for" item, I might have some suitable but can't be sure as never dealt with a stuperstox. Sure somebody will have some at the club you can at least borrow!

Roger, I use a small amount of standard diff grease on both the thrust bearings in the Schumacher diff and it's fine. As you say, you need the right grease for the right application, so I would venture to suggest that the perfect solution would be silicon diff grease on the spur gear (where all that's needed to to help the balls rotate freely in the holes) and some form of high pressure grease on the thrust race in the hub - some EP version perhaps?

Just thought my experience might help in making choices for Frost...

Schumacher sell both greases. Don't use silicone diff grease in the thrust race, its designed to make the balls grip not lubricate them'

I always use the Shui diff grease on the balls and AE black grease on the thrust bearing.

Mark, that's exactly why I use diff grease in the thrust race - so the balls grip. The lubrication we want is between the balls and the 'cage' that holds them in place. We don't, as you say, want the lubrication to be good enough to make the balls slip on their thrust washers.

I suspect that the diff grease is not good enough to provide metal-to-metal lubrication in the thrust race, so on the next rebuild I am going to switch to an EP-style grease. AE black is good for that. The key thing for a good diff is to use the minimum amount of grease. Slapping it all over the thrust washers and balls just makes for a diff that drags, picks up a lot of dirt and gets stiff prematurely.

Thrust races need to be lubed and free due to the loading, hence why all manufactures spec a different grease to the one used in the diff balls/plates
