Default Spedo and fans ....

Is it mandatory to use a fan over the spedo in a 4wd buggy with a 6.5 brushless motor ?

Thanks

it's not mandatory, but depending on ambient temperature, ventilation in the car and track conditions then it is usually wise to fit one as a precaution. Obviously it also depends on your make of speedo.

if the esc came with 1 on its generally for a reason.

but i ran a lsi excelorin sensored esc in my 2wd buggy with out it on and was fine.

best way to fined out is to do a 5 min practice and check the esc after that and see if its warm if not then it shouldnt be a problem.

so long as your gearing is not to high to put presure on your motor (hence over heating)which then puts presure on the esc to over heat and also reasonable batteries should be no problems.

So if im running an EZ run 5.5t, and im a little tight on room under my 501x shell, can i mount the fan to the side of the ESC, so itll still blow onto the heatsink?
Im talking about between my servo and ESC?
My shell has the intake opened too, for added transfer of cool air.....just something that i was thinking of as with the fan fitted to the top of the ESC, the shell "just" rests on it.

LOL cant say ive run her yet, was just trying to do a super neat install before i take her out next week i guess, think i may have to grin and bear the fan screw's just touching the shell, dont think id want to risk running without on a 5.5t.

try some masking tape on inside of shell to stop it from rubbing.

also if you want to try running it with out the fan it wont hurt for 5 mins just for trial purposes and see if it gets warm or not start with a small pinion 1st tho.

a fan by the side should be fine as long as the air is blowing along the ribs in the heatsink. a lot of guys ran it that way in the xx4 or X5.

just make sure there is an air intake at the front and also lots of gap at the rear of the shell to let the hot air out.
