AFAIK the RTR is built rear motor as it comes in the box, and doesn't come with the mid motor parts. But aside from the longer plastic chassis its otherwise identical to the kit, so there is nothing to stop you buying the required parts and rebuilding it to mid motor.
Incidentally the Losi 22RTR is the same - it too comes with a 13.5t motor and rear motor layout without the mid motor conversion parts.

chris doughty said somewere that u can convert it to mid motor but only mid 3 gear u need to buy gears and a shaft for mid 4
