PlastiKote Super Clear Acrylic gloss is what I use to seal shells. Works a treat. available from hobbycraft, b+q and online.

Shoe goo and a latex glove. put abit on your finger and spread it about the possible rubbage areas!

Nylon reinforced sticky tape....cricket bat tape off Ebay...protects and prevents splitting..
