The DF03RA is a narrowed and shorted 1/10th buggy (like the first TC's were), but most of the old 2000 era rally cars we were talking about were basically converted TC's meaning in theory its possible. My Yokomo was part MR-4 Rally (shock towers and shafts mainly) and part MR4-TC (shock bodies, main chassis). Other used converted Losi Street Weapons (Rally Weapon) again mostly different shocks and towers.
Simply putting longer dampers on isn't always enough though as the geometry of TC shock towers didn't suit the longer shocks.

so can you still buy such sets anywhere??
and if not how would you change the shock towers ?? would you get them more upright that you can use the hole length of the damper??

Did William Mitcham win that HPI series with a TTech Predator rally car? I think he did, and if so, that car is now sat on the shelf in my garage

The ta05 wont be a good rally car unless you can cover the spur and the belts. Also you will need to need to widen the suspension mounts. I have tried

i like the ta01 for rallying.

We used to rally at fritton with tamiyas etc. I had an escort cosworth, there was a lancia, celica, 6r4 and a wide cossey on a buggy chassis amongst others.

I still have it and take it out now and again including in the snow.

You can still get the wide escort shell i've got one recently to fit on one of my buggies

Now thats an idea!

I've got an old wide-body Cossie shell myself - used to race converted buggies at the old Southend track, which was ideal. Mine was an Optima Mid under the shell.

The problem with widebodies was that they had, well wide bodies. The cars dimensions were distorted to fit a buggy width chassis.

BUT

Short Course trucks are much closer to the right dimensions. Someone needs to make rally shells for short course trucks, maybe slightly lower shock towers for a better fit on the shell and a bit lower to the ground.
OK the result would be a BIG car, but one with much better suspension travel than a converted tourer so more capable of running on some of the less extreme buggy tracks

The moulds would be expensive for such a large car and such a small market it wouldn't happen.

But how about using a truck chassis on say a B4 to lengthen it ... now that might work ?

RIGHT! Bought an HPI now, just need somewhere to race it!

I might also have to buy one of those Escort shells.

Anyone know of an RS2000 conversion

William won the first round at Kiddy but i won the series with my HPI Rally (I was racing for Mirage at the time).

That was awesome fun though, HRC was one of the best tracks for them as there weren't massive jumps being used and it was slighly damp so we had some proper drifting going on... Loved it at the time, I had the focus but also sold it when i moved to AE and then ran the TC3 Rally which was also pretty cool

Ah cool, I knew it had won something. Mr Weatherly sold it to me after I begged him for one I used to run it indoors at Worksop, they used to run a series for them there back in the day, they went really well on the cork floor with rally blocks on

Really cool though - I'd love to do some scale racing with one of those, no crazy power brushless nuttyness tho. standard motors and cells.
I am quite happy to put a heat on for rally cars if we get enough interest at our Indoor off-road championships. We have three rounds left although this saturday is a bit short notice especially as that integrale hasn't been released yet but there is a round in February and March.

More info on the series can be found here:

On the Short Course Truck idea - I was thinking the same thing abut my Strike. It would have to be 1/8th though, wouldn't it?

Hi guys!
I´m from Germany and over here we also got something like a Rally/Rallycross Championship. I´ll be competing in the 1rst Round of 2010 in Hannover tomorrow and as it is "Rally Monte Carlo" there´s gonna be races on snow and ice and even a Midnight stage.

If you´re interested just take a look here:

A few people are buying Traxxas's Slash's (2wd or 4wd) and running 1/8 car bodies (kyosho inferno gt, ofna dm1 etc.) JConcepts and Pro-line also make underbody covers for the Slash which helps with the debris.
