Hi all
Was wondering if any of the creative folk on oOple have tried mounting a Go Pro camera on a SC truck ? If so how ? And were the resulting videos any good ?? Cheers

Been done a few times mate, just finding a way to keep the shakes away is more of a problem than mounting.

I have tried it a couple of times with my buggy, and was fairly pleased with the result. You cant really do much about the shaky footage. Just make sure you keep it set up for a wide angle resolution (fish eye cameras like the go pro are less sensitive to camera shake). I then use the youtube stabilization post processing option on videos i upload, it gives a bit of a weird warp to some of the shots so its a matter or preference if you use it or not. You will never get a perfect video, but you can make out whats going on easily enough.
As far as attaching the camera to the car goes, i used the GoPro stick on mounts on the roof of my buggy shell. it worked ok and will never come off, but the shell started to crack along the lines which had been scored for the paint masking. I was not that surprised as i was driving at full pace, jumps and all. You really have to tighten the bracket bolts as the camera position does tend to slip a bit if you don't crank them as hard as they will go, i have heard they break if you over tighten them, so there is a balance somewhere. If i was to do it again, i would sacrifice a shell, and reinforce as much as i could. I think its worth the effort. I am going to have a go with a short course in the next couple of weeks. Check out the video below which was captured using a losi 22 at the WORM off road track. Make sure you view it in HD |
