Default Having trouble setting up ESC

This is a real newbie problem I’m ashamed to say but I’ve never had an issue like it before.

I just took an Inferno converted to brushless as an exchange for some stuff, the guy showed me it working with his radio.

I cannot make it work with my Sanwa MT-S / RX-482!

The ESC is an Etronix Photon 150 amp waterproof and I cannot even find a manual for it online.

If I plug the ESC into channel 2 the receiver turns on but I cannot get the car to do anything and the steering servo does nothing.

If I plug the ESC into channel 1 the steering on my transmitter throttles the car but again the steering servo does nothing.

Any ideas I just don’t know what to do with it?

Hi,

I'm not familiar with the ESC in question however you could try changing the servo reverse on channel 2. Some ESCs can be temperamental to that. You could also try resetting the model in the handset to ensure all the endpoints etc are at 100% and that any other settings are neutral.

Regards,
Jon.

Thanks for that, I just tried setting the channels to REV on the transmitter if that’s what mean and still the same, I deleted the old model and started a new one.

I just tried again with the ESC in channel 1 so the steering ran the motor and I noticed when I plug the servo in to channel 2 the throttle on the transmitter makes the ESC fan speed up. What’s that all about?

If it's like any other ESC I've used you have to set the neutral and endpoint calibration on first use before it does anything. Normally done by holding the set button down - think I have a text snippet somewhere...

1. Turn the Transmitter on.

2. While you are holding the red button on the switch of the ESC, turn on the ESC.

When it turns on, while still holding the red button down, red LED should flash, let go of red button.

(Don't hold down red button longer than 3 seconds because it will restore ESC settings to default instead of go into calibration mode)

3. Now, leave the throttle in neutral position on the transmitter and hit the red button once. The ESC will flash green once.

4. Now, hold full throttle and press the red button again. The ESC will blink green twice.

5. Lastly, Hold full reverse and hit the red button one last time. The ESC will blink green three times.

The ESC will then be calibrated.

Thanks for that, those instructions were not quite right for this ESC but I managed to use them to guess the procedure it was quite similar.

The ESC now works fine but the steering still doesn’t steer the car it just alters the ESC fan speed.

Do you have a spare servo to try? It does sound like that could be the issue to me.

Really obvious question - can I just check the steering servo is plugged into receiver as the ESC fan should not be affected by the steering?
Just check that all leads go to right place...

Yeah, plugging the fan into receiver channel 1 instead of 3 or 4 would be really embarrassing

Never done it.
Ever.
