Re breaking bulkheads.

Would it be any use to mount the shock tower onto the bulkhead with a set of 'O' rings sandwiched inbetween the bulkhead and tower?

This - or something silimar would allow a little play on impact as currently the front end is super rigid.

Some good ideas about the carbon brace ect-didn't think about that.. could help!

Love the car though, not shimmed my diffs and after 2 meetings still buttery smooth and no sign of excess wear. Mind you its been damp astro most of the time..such a joy to drive this buggy!

hi guys...

Had a few runs with my car now... no breakages and in regards to the diff gears breaking... if u set ur slipper right you shouldnt break gears... i have my slipper set fairly tight which gives the car a load of forward traction but at the same time when doing this u can hear the slipper slip for a micro second... Im running on high grip astro so the gears are being worked quite hard along with my super boosted 10.5 motor (which is faster than my 5.5 lol )

People have been having gear problems after the 3rd or 4th run,
the few that have stoped the car, shimed under the center gear have gone on to use the car with no problems, others have just fitted the NT1 metal gears, part number 335030,335080.
App Xray know about the problems,im sure after they have all recovered from the holidays they will sort it

Xray have already issued thier responce on the diffs

XRAY XB4 - Diff News (please read XRAY Statement below)

"Dear Distributor

Please note that there are some wrong information being spread around. Some customers have noticed a small play on the gear mesh between diff crown gear and pinion gear and they suggest other XB4 customers to use shims on the diff. This is however wrong. Here is official statement which will be posted also online at our web, please be aware of this:

XB4 information about shimming the differential:

Please note that the XB4 was designed by purpose with a small play (clearance) on the gear mesh between the differential crown gear and pinion gear. This small play is made by purpose. You should not use any shims on the differential to eliminate this play. The differential during operation gets warmer and expands. In case the differential will not have a sufficient play the gears may not work smoothly, may lock or even break. For this reason it is suggested not to use any shims and to build the differential as per the instruction manual."

RC Disco statement - "In XRAY we trust"

and diff related here

XB4 "SLIPPER CLUTCH" INFORMATION

Message from XRAY

"It is absolutely imporant that you never fully tighten the Slipper Clutch. Overtightening the Slipper Clutch may result into breaking the diff crown gear and pinion gear. The wheels should always be able to slip"

RC DISCO:-

PLEASE NOTE - Gear diffs (as included in the XB4) do NOT slip at all (unlike a Ball Diff) - hence the slipper clutch settings are more important to get right to prevent 'jolt/shocks' (from landing off jumps / clipping corners etc) transferring through straight onto the gears. Please double check your settings as explained above and you should have no problem!! Get in touch with us if you want any further advice.

Last week's news...

I did examine some broken diff gears yesterday. They broke with the driver applying and reapplying full throttle when the car was stuck against a solid track marker.

I had no such problems, my slipper set to 6.02mm. Enough slip to protect the gears, but tight enough for good drive.

I still really want to try one, and will more than likely have one by the end of the month ? I've always had Xray for 1/8th and always loved there attention to detail and quality of there parts, lets hope they can address the early teething problems.
Very interesting reading!
So overall are you XB4 owners happy that you got one ??

So far I like the xray xb4 only broked the rear diff due my error not tighten up rear diff case due alot play which stripped the gears so put new one in all now is well ..
Ran 4 heat and final still tight Iike new

My previous car is durango dex410 which I had for long time when it first released which I still got so time for me to move to newer 4wd which I chosed xb4 over K1.

so your saying there release does not cure the problem?

BTW Xray have revised the slipper settings in the online manual to 5.7 - 6.3mm from the 5.5 - 5.7mm described in the manual that came with my car.

No, I'm saying that I built mine with consideration to the new slipper settings that were advised in the revision put out last week by xray, and I had no problems with broken composite diff gears at my first meeting with the car.

I whitnessed someone else break their rear diff gears in anger, and I've no idea what their slipper setting was.

This off another site, thought it might help though.

"just came back from my first run with the XB4

I used the Martin Bayer Setup for carpet, running Schumacher Minipin.

I´m really impressed. Car has lots of steering, jumps very well and it´s aceleration is second to none.

I ran Durango and Kyosho on the same track before so I can compare.

I had some very bad "highsiders" and 2 really hard impacts but nothing broke.

Same to the drivetrain - nothing shimmed, everything stock. No Problems - and there is never more grip than on carpet with Schumacher Mini pins.

Martin told me, that the problems with the diffgears appear when you use too much oil in the diffs.

I filled the diffs with the HUDY scale, exactly like the manual says - no problems - super smooth and free drivetrain.

This car is a blast!

i did strip my internal diff gear in the rear (as neall said) my slipper setting is 6.1. its was my own fault so i cant complain and i think i did overfill it.

i find the car to be very strong tbh, if you crash, something has to take the impact, which can results in breakages, its the same on all cars.

in my opinion with the front bulkheads people are nipping the screws that hold the tower up too tight causing stress when crashed.
