Random thread but as there's sometimes some negative stuff flying about thought we'd share some of the positive stuff that's going on at our club, 1066 Racing, (Hastings) and the fact that we're still going some 10 months after starting the club!
Early this year 3 of us put in some cash to buy carpet and an AMB20 timing system, since then it's been a bunch of hard work, calling in occasional favours from mates, and happy to say all is currently going well. We've attracted lots of old racers, and best of all some new members, most of whom have bought cheap 2nd hand cars and are slowly moving over to newer kit as the bug bites!
Also been lucky enough to have support from other local racers who've come and joined in when not racing at their home clubs, so many thanks to them too. Club nights currently attracting around 20 drivers ranging from F1 to total novices.
The club has two hire cars, which have so far attracted 2 new members who've bought their own gear, so a good initiative we think. We did have plans to run a race meeting at a very large local car show, to hire the club cars out at £2 for 3mins in between heats, but sadly was rained off! Can't win them all.
We're continuing to promote, we've been in the local paper recently, put posters up at big local employers and in various waiting rooms, and we're on a big push this winter, having some all day indoor meetings as well as our standard club nights. Big aim is first a more modern timing system, then hopefully an outdoor track...been talking to both our local councils, which has been a log and fairly slow process!
Hope this doesn't come across as blowing our own trumpet; been really hard work at times, but we're all enjoying the results, the main one being somewhere local to race again, and just wanted to share the info for those who've maybe considered starting a club but not got round to it.
