4 peaks warrior challenge completed.
The challenge is completed James, Vicky, and some other dudes completed the four peaks challenge this weekend, along with support from Brian Shardlow who safely delivered the minibus and completed the first mountain challenge before having to return home early to work.
The four peaks warriors started in Ireland at Slieve Donnard at 6am on Sunday morning, completing the first mountain in an impressive 3hrs 15 minutes, followed by a race to the ferry in the wagon, which finally landed in Stranraer at nearly 3pm, the next part of the challenge was the 5 hour drive to Ben Nevis which needed to be ascended and descended by nightfall. The drive was slow-going, with various ferraris and kit-cars holding up the bus, but we arrived before sunset and had completed Ben Nevis by 12.30am. Next was the very tiring 6 hour drive from Ben Nevis to Scaffel Pike in the Lake District, with only two designated drivers who had just completed two mountain climbs, the drive was almost as difficult as the walking. We shared out the driving taking it in turns to nap for an hour at a time, and finally landed in the lake district around 7am on Monday morning. Scaffel Pike was a real drag, everyone felt pretty unwell and the weather was particularly misty, meaning that when we did eventually reach the top the view was, well, mist and rocks. Coming down the mountain was much more rewarding though, with impressive views of the nearby lake (and power station). With four very tired walkers, and one unwell driver, the final part of the challenge was to stay awake long enough to drive from the lakes down to the depths of Wales to complete the final leg - Snowdon. The journey was hardcore and required a lot of redbull and mind-madness, but finally we arrived at our destination at around 6pm, with an aim to ascend and descend the final mountain within our 40 hour alloted time. The climb was rocky and hard (as by now it had become evident that mountains were exactly that), but very rewarding and the views from the top were well worth the effort. At around the 39 hour 36 minute mark we arrived at the foot of snowdon, having completed our four peaks within the 40 hour schedule, and having just the long walk back to the bus before we could finally retire from the mountains. 4 mountains - 40 hours - 1000miles driving - 3 hours sleep. The challenge was immense but a huge achievement. We're all well chuffed with the funds we have raised so far, but are still eagerly awaiting further donations to make the event all the more worthwhile. Anyone who would like to show support please check out: http://www.justgiving.com/4PeaksWarriors or seek us out at the next national, all loose change very gratefull accepted PS.
