BRCA Nationals 2011/12 - what you need to know

Please note that you must be registered on the site and logged in to enter an event. If you are not yet registered on the site, use the link in the right hand menu and follow the instructions. Hopefully most of you will have registered last year, so it'll be a much smoother process for you this time round.

Entries are taken on a first come, first served basis, and are only confirmed once payment has been made.


Entry Info
All events: Saturday is Stock Class (blinky speedos), Sunday is Open Modified. You can enter either or both classes.

Entry Fee is £15 per day / £30 per weekend.

So we have 6 rounds of the Stock Class and 6 rounds of the Modified class.

To qualify for a championship finishing position you need to complete 4 events in a class.
(e.g. For example if you work Saturdays you can just do 4 of the Sundays and you would get a championship finishing position for the Modified class.)

Full directions, hotel lists etc will be distributed in due course, and will also be in confirmations of entry.



Other Info

Finals are of the A-Z variety, trophies to top 3 in each.

The stock class is for 10.5 brushless motors from the EB list and speedos set to run in ‘blinky mode’. A list of homologated speedos will be produced by the electric board soon. This is likely to be very similar to the exisiting list used by ROAR in America, so use that for guidance
The Open modified class is for any BRCA EB homologated motor and any speedo. Dynamic timing advance and ‘boost profiles’ are allowed for this class, so there are no restrictions.

There are also separate championships for Formula 2 and Formula 3 (All drivers are placed into a Formula based on their ability, by the qualifying officer) this runs over the year and is based on the same format as the Open or Formula1 championship described above.

So essentially at events you qualify and race against people of roughly your own ability, there is a Championship for drivers of all ability to chase, and you don’t have to do too much road mileage to qualify for it. (Though I would personally recommend making the effort as they’re all excellent meetings.)

The timing system used is RC AMB; personal transponders are required.

Let us know when we start asking who’s interested in going – the UK will be given a number of places that will be allocated by applying the handicap to the championship listing. Having said that, at the last worlds in Germany pretty much everyone who asked for a place ended up getting one.

sorry for the silly question, but is this like offroad where access to meeting is preferential to f1 grade drivers? Quite fancy a bit of this indoor(warm) onroad stuff, especially 12th!

Nope, entries are allocated on a first come, first served basis. There is no early entry or priority booking for anyone.

No, tyre choice is open. You can use as many or as few sets as you wish.

I would recommend having at least 3 sets (6 if your budget will stretch!) that you rotate between runs (6 runs a day). Otherwise the additive softens them up too much and they turn to mush. They can be left to dry for a couple of weeks and then re-used at the next meeting. You'll generally get anywhere from 3-12 runs out of a set of tyres, depending on wear and what your budget allows. The guys that have been doing it a while usually have a box of tyres of various compounds and diameter, as they can be used as a good tuning aid on the otherwise simple cars.

Actually quite tempted by 1/12 and have been for a few seasons. Might have to see about getting to atleast a couple of meetings during this winter.

1/12th is a very friendly bunch, and Nobby (Mark) is not only very friendly once he has had his McDonalds but also one of the top drivers in the series

Yes mate i have also been tempted over to have a go this season. They are just as micro as our 1/16ths and realy quick. An you can run the new AE12R5.1 lipo conversion.

Pack the thermals for Ardent though, just in case!!

You are all always very welcome, and if you have any questions please just ask. If it's your first time at the event, we'll buddy you up with one of our regular drivers to help you through the day and get the most from you and your car. We usually lend out the things people don't have, help with build and set-up, and even offer driving tips - they're better coming from Mark than me, I'm past it now!!

Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible this season.

My son is running 12th for the 1st time this year...have heard the 12th guys gives loads of help...should be good and hoping he will enjoy it as much as touring cars

Yes we're a pretty friendly, helpful bunch. I wouldn't do it otherwise. I only live 15 mins drive max from both Worksop and Robin Hood off road venues and still do 12th, so that must say something (and I do like off road!).

"For its 33rd consecutive season, the BRCA announce the 2011/2012 12th Scale National Championship. Six exciting rounds of racing for the Spec and Modified Championship titles will be held across the nation at indoor venues fully equipped for up to eighty drivers in each class.

The BRCA 1/12th Electric Circuit National championship for 2011/12 will consist of a total of 6 weekend events with 2 meetings at each event, Saturdays will be Spec class and Sundays will be Modified. Drivers enter each day individually, and for the full experience of the social event that is a BRCA 12th National, many will enter both days and enjoy a very sociable Saturday night with fellow racers.

Four out of the six meetings will count towards the National Championship, and separate Championships will be held for F2 & F3 drivers as well as the Open Championship. Drivers earn a handicap that is used to seed heats, so not only do you always race with drivers of your ability, you automatically enter these Championships too. With six Championship winners each season, there is always a season-long competition with someone to enjoy.

New for this season, the Spec class will use speed controllers with no timing boost, and a 10.5 brushless motor from the BRCA list. Eligible speed controllers will be published on the BRCA website (www.brca.org) and for guidance check the ROAR list (www.roarracing.com)

Yep Thermals for Ardent for sure, pits are a little bit warmer than the rest of it but as your mum said 'you can always take layers off if you get too warm'. :-)

I've just got a 12R5.1 and wondered if a Speed Passion GT 2.1 can be used and if so, what software would i need to load onto it to make legal?

The BRCA 1/12th Electric Circuit Committee would like to announce that it will be supporting a class and championship for Mardave cars at this winters nationals.


There are a number of reasons for this.

One of them is a small concern that entry numbers for 1/12th scale will be slightly down on last year. As a result, we had to consider ways of sustaining our championship and securing the necessary revenue for the meetings to be run without a loss.

Secondly, a group of racers/organisers, including the owner of Mardave, contacted us to say that they were interested in running a circuit series for their cars at national level. They suggested that perhaps we would agree to supporting them from an organisational and events perspective. As their cars are 1/12th scale and they wish to race on a circuit, we felt that is was within our remit and therefore we agreed.

We see this as a good recruitment opportunity and we are hopeful that a few of the Mardave guys might decide to take up 1/12th scale when they've been to one of our meetings and seen our cars etc. At the EGM we agreed that due to the nature of our cars/racing our most effective new driver source will be other classes; this is that idea in progress.


There are, however, a few clauses and clarifications that it is important everyone understands;

- The Mardave cars will run on a circuit track (the same one as us)
- Drivers are not permitted to enter both the Mardave and 1/12th scale classes at the same event
- There will still be 8 heats available to the 1/12th scale drivers, although if less than 8 heats are required then the places will be re-allocated to the Mardave guys
- Entries will be processed by Gareth Bevens
- Mardave entry allocations will be confirmed after the closing date for 1/12th scale entries
- Rules and championship points will be managed and compiled by the people responsible for the Mardave series

So, to summarise, this is intended to act as a support mechanism for our existing national series, and it will not directly affect our entries or championship. As drivers, you will not have to do anything other than to welcome the influx of new drivers and embrace what is being done to guarantee the future of our national series.
