Cougar SV a few questions
Hi,
just got myself my first 1/10th offroad, a Cougar SV and have a few general questions (I am not new to RC - I race 1/12th pan cars) to help me in the right direction, Which spares should I have with me? What type of speedo and motor should I be looking at? For starters would I be ok to run a Tekin RS and a 10.5 motor? (I will be running at Oswestry, if that helps at all) Is the RS suitable - no heatsink or fan? Cells - I thought about Demon power products DL5040 7.4v, 5000 mAh. 40+C, are these suitable? thanks in advance, cheers, Dale |

Hi Dale,
Firstly your speedo will be fine with that motor etc... You may need to go for the rs pro when you improve and your motor is changed. Spares for sv, front bulkheads are a must and spare differential internals. They are only things I have done on mine.

sorry to hijack your post Gone Elvis but i have just purchased a cougar SV and when i tell people that i have brought one they just laugh and say "hope you have a Big wallet for spares"
are they taking the Michael or are they that bad for spares me too im new to 1/10 offroad (run 1/10 TC onroad and truggy off road) so i am really in the dark about the cars. |

to the original poster, the tekin rs you have will be suitable for any motor and will not require upgrading. You can run down to a 5.5 motor in the RS, not that you would go that low. 8.5 brushless is plenty enough!

I think the best idea first of all would be buying front ally turn buckles as the gold ones on them bend vey easily

Get some decent bearings in it and then you should be fine. |

Don't know about Cougar bearings, but Mi4 set was good.

I just installed the Schumacher ceramic bearings for the Cougar and they seem fine to me.

thanks for all the replies again,
randall, you beat me to the question! so which 3rd party bearings would you recommend, there seems to be quite a price difference. is it worth paying out for say boca bearings? front ally turn buckles - which ones to go for? @fastinfastout thanks, I was thinking of running the 10.5 for a while then going for a faster motor. what range of pinions should i get using the standard spur? cheers, Dale Last edited by Gone Elvis; 06-08-2010 at 08:01 AM. Front and Rear Turn Buckles are the 53mm units, You want the Titanium ones U1573 there are 2 in a packet
Front steering turnbuckles are 60mm U1574 I haven't installed mine yet as racing hasn't kicked off yet, got my Cougar 2 weeks before the wet season hit us and rained our clay tracks out. |

@eichkay thanks for that,
so is it best to go for the Schumacher ceramic bearings U3757, or ones from a third party? |

Don't know if schuey bearings are cheaper for you or not, but I would go for Schuey bearings personally. Even std non-ceramic bearings works great for me. I'm just using GT85 to lube them from day 1. Despite running them in dirt and loads of dust, none of them failed yet. Bath in brake cleaner made them running well again everytime.

personally I would not touch any bearings offered by schumacher, including their own ceramics. I know of people who have had failures with schumacher ceramics.
The bearings I have bought off ebay have been fantastic in all my cars and have never had any failures yet. Cannot say the same for schumacher bearings. |

As I see there are both people happy with Schuey bearings and people that hate them. Now decide yourself
