Default Vintage Series 2010 - Discussions!

Who's interested in running some olde worlde cars then??

It's been suggested that we have two classes:
- Vintage - Pre 94
- Classic - Pre 99

If we went down that route then they would probably run together but score points based on the class they were running in.

Also, are we happy with 6 rounds with 4 to count? 100 points for 1st with extra point for pole?

And finally, last year there were no restrictions on motors, do we want to level the playing field a bit and specify a motor (silver can or cheapo 18T for example) or let it be a free for all?

Let me have your thoughts please

The pre 99 category was suggested by a couple of Cat 98 owners, but don't know if it'd be that popular as the pre94's.

I quite like the idea of a 'control' motor as it may encourage more people to bring out their older cars without worrying about their transmission and would level the playing field a bit.

totally agree on the motor limitations ... try and keep it mainly original ... the old bad boys is good to level it all out ... and nimh's to power them.

Nah sorry Carl, I'm not going to go and buy nimhs and a charger for this!
Motors maybe, as long as everyone agreed to run the same one, but most people have lipos now

Agreed... the battery cant be controlled but with stock brushed motors so cheap now why not run them to keep everything equal and fair?? Just a thought...Any idea when the b2 ceased and the b3 came in?

Sorry should have said that with regard to cells, then nimhs are too modern, should be nicads! SCR or possibly SCE's, around 1700mah maximum!!

I can see the two year classes working ok I wonder how many people will actually run anything from 94-98 though ? I would run the Pred ( my version came out in '97 ) but i prefer using the older chassis... and my Top Force still has something to prove

Batteries should be a 'free' choice, Lipo or Nimh/NiCad, although i will still run Nimh GP3300's though as ive got 3 sets that are still good.

Motors would be interesting... I ran brushed in lasts year series, 17 doubles in the 2wd chassis and 15 doubles in the Top Force & Lazer. Fun but even for me that was pretty slow... if you went down to 19 or 27t stock motors it will seem very, very slow....

You could 13.5 brushless or say 17 double brushed ( about the same power these days ) to save trannies, but i certainly wouldnt mind the motors going to say 14 doubles or 10.5 brushless.

Do we have an idea of the people who are interested so far ?

Ive got - me, Pete, possibly Petes bro for a race or two, Mat Williams has a early CAT, Dave & Owen have the B2/3 ( and a Yokomo MX4 remember ? ), Si Osborne has his old RC10 as does Balders and one or two others, and one or two others have expressed an interest in a old cheap vintage car.

Anyone else ive missed so far ?

I'd be up for a bit of this.
First choice would be a TRX-3 but no idea on release date and which class. If not then I'm sure my Top-Cat/Cougar hybrid would be old enough.
Would have to run on Lipos as don't have any other cells. I would prefer unrestricted motors as want to run brushless without buying a spec motor just for this.
If going down the controlled motor route then don't make them too slow! Make it a race, not a shelf queen parade!

Yup your TRX3 is pre-94 Gaz so thats fine

Ive also re-tooled all of the TRX1 & 3 for the resin parts, so you dont have to worry about being short of spares for it

So another vote for the faster motors then...

The only reason for suggesting a control motor was I know Balders was worried about his Lazer's belt lasting another race!

But lets keep it fun then, no rules other than the two dates!
I have an old 9.5 that I ran occasionally in the Mid last year, my old brushed motor gave up the ghost in the last race!

(And I do have two vintage cars up for sale at the moment should anyone want to join in our fun! )

I'm not sure my noisy lump of cheese is really up to this again. Last time out the steering linkages where dribbling out the bottom, so the servo was just waving at me instead, consequently trying to drive it within the track markings was pretty tricky

To be fair it was never a real racing rc car anyway, so I might not tarnish it's dignity anymore than I already have.

That Cobra's a bargain tbh. For 30 quid even im tempted...

Hang on, arent the diffs im machining for you for the Cobra or do you have two ??

I'm sorely tempted to run an Egress this year for a race - but do i get an extra point if i run one 'cos according to this Ebay add its more valuable than a new Durango ??

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tamiya-Egress-...item3cae4d2be2

Just a shame its not quite as good or original as it seems that one...

erm I might have!

Unfortunately we're not running enough rounds to allow you to use all your collection, somehow I doubt that even if you ran a different car in each heat there still wouldn't be enough races!
