Default Rudebits DB1 is here

Rudebits sent us news of their interesting new 'DB1' 2WD buggy - with a shaft driven mid motor layout.


Rudebits:
The DB1 made its major debut at the BRCA National event at Stotfold, amongst probably the strongest field of drivers in the UK. In the hands of Kevin Lee it finished on the podium. This weekend the 3 test cars in existence competed at the BRCA Mid-South Regional event held at TORCH full Astro track, where some 90 competitors were in attendance. The DB1 backed up the National result of speed and ease of driving with an impressive qualification of 3 cars in the top 4 (1st, 2nd and 4th) Full results can be found here http://www.torchracing.org.uk/result.../2WD/index.htm Please bear in mind after round 2 and for all subsequent rounds, the weather was wet.

When will the other versions become available, ie the ones that come with either a Kyosho front end or rear end depending which combo you need? Any forecast on prices for the other versions yet?

So basically for that price you just get the conversion and not much else.

How much is it for everything? I may be tempted if the cost is right, however looking at the previous post it seems that someone has not realised that this is way over the top. Too expensive.

DB1 conversion kit - £200 (reasonable price for what you get)
4wd buggy to use as a donor car - £309 or £350
Front end of the 2wd - possibly £50

So almost £550 or £600 for a 2wd. Guys I think you need to hurry up and get a full kit together and lower the price dramatically as this will put more people over to Durango and Losi. You can buy two new Losi buggies for less than the price of one of your cars which doesnt make sense.

but will you be as quick? and how much will all the bits cost to make the losi competative?

I think if anyone is expecting a 'cheap' version of this car they are going to be disappointed - the conversion kit price is now known and the bits to make up the Kyosho aspects of the kit cost what they cost, it's not like they can be sourced from Kyosho in their tens of thousands to drive the price down and I'm fairly sure the markup on the spares isn't even that high in the first place to be able to slash the cost of putting them altogether in one box (which also costs a business money to do - nobody's time is free!).

If you want to put this kit together but don't want to buy all new bits then I think it's up to you to see what you can do about making it cheaper by buying second hand donor cars etc, but then if you're thinking "but I don't want the old front end, I want the WC end and I want FS2 SP gunmetal bits etc" then you're asking for a fairly specific thing and as such you're going to have to pay for it.

I'm not knocking the DB1 believe me, I am actually considering how I can make one more affordable to me, but I don't think you can compare it to an all in one kit such as the Losi which is already very reasonably priced - it'd be much fairer to compare it with the Vega and other such premium conversions. The bottom line however is that it's still a very specialised bit of kit and as such will carry a higher price tag than some of the other options out there.

Not trying to get anyones back up here, it's just how I see it, peace!

I really don't understand what all the fuss is about ????

It has never as far as i am aware, been posted saying this car was going to be cheap!!
If you want one you will find the money to buy one, if you can't then you will just have to watch others run them. I would really like a McLaren F1 but sadly it is out of my pay packets reach, i am not going to demand on a forum they reduce the cost....

Let's not lose sight, this is a conversion!! That means you have to buy a donor car (instantly raises cost).

Tony has said they will work towards ways of supplying the kit to everyone, but it still won't be as cheap as cars like Losi/Durango.

Lets get back to what this thread is about, the release of the DB1 to the general public. Well done to everyone involved in making this car available to all.

The DB1 is never going to be a mass produced car that will challenge the big manufacturers, from what I have seen its a bespoke race car developed to be used at the top of the sport by a select number of drivers that want the best and are willing to pay for it.

The kyosho cars are not cheap to start with, so any conversion based on one will come at a premium. This is no different to the vega's and how many of those do you see at club level? Loads!!!

These too were classed as expensive, £279 for the WC RB5 and then £200 for the vega kit.. Not cheap but loads of drivers saw that it worked and was durable, so took the plunge!!

The bottom line is, if you want the ultimate, spend the pennies... If you don't then don't!!

I'd like to see these cars run competitively in the hands of an 'average' racer rather than top driver. You only see them doing well in the hands of the A final type of racers....who, let's face it, could get a brick with wheels on to go faster than an average racers race kit.

Thank you Tony for the shells yesterday.

As for cost, it's same as anything else. My mate purchased an Audi TT RS at circa £45k - cash. Why, because he wanted to and could afford it. So what's the problem? I would love an Audi TT RS or RS4.. Another mate spent £10k on hi fi kit - Meridian, sounds awesome, would I spend that much err no.

It's like anything, pays your money take your choice? There will always be things we can afford and others can't and the opposite etc.

All I know is I've order one

Surly you won't be interested in it as it is not a 25 year old "prototype"!

Buy it don't buy it as Mikey said your money your choice, but don't knock it because you can't afford it or your not prepared
To part with that kind of cash.

Or what you could do is buy it, race it (or try to), come on here ask for advice, then complain, then sell it, then buy another make and on and on and on................................................ ........... remind you of any one???

I can't see what all the fuss about it. The price is the price. How much is the RB5 Vega if you have to buy a new kit to go with it? What about the CR2?

RudeBits are not forcing anybody to buy the car, they are just giving everybody another variation on a mid motor car.

I agree this is an awesome bit of engineering and hats off for doing something different. Would love to see how an 'average' driver gets on with one though as has been said.

so i found a Losi done like this on Rctech.net and he did it in 2010

no ones saying that it hasn't been done before, just from what i believe some 4wd's don't have enough rear traction when converted to 2wd, fs2's have loads hence why they have been used HTH
