Hi Andy, I have just spent a pleasant hour or so looking back through the full back catalogue of all the shells you've done and I have a question about how you get the vinyl masks onto the shell:-

Do you do it in sections or all in one piece? I note that many of the shells seem to have beautiful designs that flow from front to back / side to side, so if they are sectional I can't see any obvious points of join. Or do you add various design points and then liquid mask over and "join it all together" . Or is it a case of "whatever suits the shell"?
I have a simple vinyl cutter which I've made some masks on, but seem to struggle where I have a full design to affix to the shell.

Any tips?

Ps - the shells are stunning

Cheers for the kind comments re the shells.

Workflow has changed over the course of the thread.

These days - I mainly use the computer cut vinyl masks - applied onto the blank shell, then liquid mask over the top. Best of both worlds then as I get the benefits of both. Takes a bit of time and planning and careful cutting around / over the masks etc - but using both - anything can be done (within reason!)

I also sometimes cut masks and apply them to the outside of the shell and then just liquid mask the entire inside and use the masks as a guide - as opposed to drawing on the outside of the shell. Then cut it all by hand.

Finally finished the BIG ONE for Leon - 1/5th Scale - similar style to his last one.
Took bloody ages to paint!

Hi Mate.

Yes Bambi will spray liquid mask - no problem. If you were doing a lot - I would buy a Bambi with a bigger air resevoir as otherwise the pump will be running a lot and it could get hot!

I bought a cheap car spray gun and use that for the liquid mask. Thin it a touch and it's good to go. Spraying the mask is MILES better than painting it on - it goes on like glass, you can hardly see it's there

Bambi is ace - when mine dies (if it dies) I will buy another.
Also - get a good airbrush - I bought one from Jon at RCS - was about £100, and is miles better than all the cheap ones I have had.
