MS Outlook

Guys,

Home one of the more computer literate people can help me out here. I have a problem with MS Outlook in that whenever I take my laptop away from home I can receive emails via a wifi hotspot or friends networl, but it won't let me send them. As soon as I connect to my home network all is good again.

I've tried searching on Google and it says something about my IP address not matching up with what Outlook is expecting but I have no idea what that means............

Edit: it's Outlook 2010 if that helps (and a legit copy too!!!!!)

Your ISP locks down sending to only allow them through a node connected directly to their network.

Its to stop spammers getting the relay address of the server, sending mail and getting them blocked. If you only allow customers to send mail from their home connection then it covers this issue.

p.s. What is your ISP?

as a work around, you could use your ISPs webmail system, assuming they offer one? Probably won't upload to your outlook unless you mess with e-mail account settings though.....

My ISP is Tiscali (which is now TalkTalk as they purchased the company, but all the gumf is still Tiscali).

I could use the webmail but it's quite poor. I just wondered if anyone knew a way around it.

No way around it am affraid. Locked relay servers are quite common these days.

have you tried putting in your talktalk username and password in email settings, more settings,outgoing mail server, tick log on using username and password??

I'll give it a go and report back when I get out next time (next week probably).
