You are right it does depend! The Gear diffs change the characteristics of the car quite significantly IMO, you won't know until you try it if it suits you. It is an expensive mod buying new AE or Durango diffs and conversion. If you can get second hand Durango diffs it can cut the cost a little.

2 x Durango diffs = £68
2 x Durango Input Shaft/Gear = £22.10
2 x Conversion from Ben = £40

Total New cost = £130.10

2 x AE Gear Diffs 9948 = £100
2 x Drive input shaft 9942 = £8.79
2 x Gear 9933 = £23.38
2 x Bearings 6906 = £10.99
4 x Shims 3911 = £5
2 x e clips 6299 =£1.95

Total New Cost £150.11

You might have some of these parts already but price is stiff. Try to get a test of a car already converted first.

Personally I say it is worth it as I like the robustness of the gear drive and no risk of slipping them. Having said that I used balls for years with no big issues and found rebuilding them easy. With the B44.3 out now, I would sell up a B44.2 and buy the new car as you get way more than just the gear diffs.
