Default Tyres for Nationals

What is the norm for tyre use at Nationals?
Im not wanting to scrimp but how many sets of tyres do people normally go through in a day?
Say 4 WD. How many tyres for dry and wet etc for a full day? This is going to cost a privateer a fortune!!

Depends what the tyre wear is like. For example it could be like talywain and a set of yellows lasted a whole meeting for me and looked brand new when i finished! Or it could be almost a new set every two runs like at southport!
Someone once told me " There is no point in putting brand new tyres on every run unless you can do 5 minutes without crashing"

Having been away from buying new tyres for quite some time (i had lots of the first type to use) what tyres do i need to be ordering folks? Are the type 2 (newer) ones out there now??

Im assuming that the wear rate is still similar to what it was last year?

I've not tried the new ones yet Danny though I can't see how they could not be the equal if net better of the old ones. Either way there probably aren't many of the old ones around anyway.

Chris,

Personally I budget 2 pairs of rears a day with fronts as needed. However often you use less due to tyre wear being better, or it raining or whatever. Tyres are the single biggest cost of the year but it's manageable. Southport, Stotfold you don't need spankers by any stretch to be on the pace.

Thanks for the reply. I was beginning to think that it was only BJ that was going to do nationals
Its going to be expensive. I think i will be using recycled rims for this season!

Consistancy is always the keys to decent qualifying at nats, if you arn't in the top 30 i would say clean runs on older tyres will be easier to do than on brand spankers, which will be edgier. Nationals arn't cheap but if you are careful then they wont be too expensive.
