broken b44 shock shaft

i used my b44 for the first time last night and after one small crash the shock shaft has snapped. has anyone had any problems like this before or is this just a freak failure.

also for racing on carpet what is the best tyre choice as standard ones didnt seem to grip well.

Never seen a shock shaft snap, that isn't common. Maybe just be a "Freak" failure.

Hi had the same problem on last weekends Autria Winterchamps. I am not even 100 percent sure how it happened but after I finished the last lap of one of the qualifying rounds I noticed that one side of the car was "hanging" and one of the front springs was missing. Further investigation revealed that the shockshaft was snapped just above the thread. Maybe there is a series of shafts that isn't correctly hardened?

yeah the same with mine just above the thread. it wasnt even that much of a crash done alot worse with a b4 and that never broke.

Mat, i also broke a wishbone. There is a common factor in this, Ashely was in the same race...

.. I saw that snapped shock shaft and it does seem odd... I never had that before. As for the tyres, I prefer worn yellow mini SPIKES indoors at Oswestry as they are more forgiving than pins and make the car easier to drive.

Yea your shock shaft was a bit odd mat. This car doesnt seem ot be shaping up as very strong

Mini pins are good round there though Neil I preffer pins out of the 2.

i broken my shock shaft 2 week back by hitting the post to prevent me cutting corner lol
driver error i think

but i can't really put it down to mini pin as my nearly bald tyres

Yeah I snapped a B44 front shaft at the top of the threaded part too.

It most probs not a weak point or miss manufactured part but a stress razor point. meaning where all of the compined energy from a tumble or corner cut etc goes to and has no where else to go apart from failure.
Sharp corners, square edges are the points, ie a bodyshell, if you use a knife on it and overcut/slip on a corner a crack will apear with use and stress. The thinness place is where a failure will occur.

Ive SNAPPED 3 shock shafts (front) just at the end of the threads where it finishes threading into the ballend thingy.
Indoors on carpet/flooring.

I use Schu Mini Pins (yellow). They are the preverbial bomb!

at the minute i am using b4 shaft for tempory but i haven't got round to change it to b44's shaft but i know b4 shaft slighty bigger than b44 i dunno if i am right or wrong but it still useable tho

It is a common problem as there is a lot of people out there trying to get a hold of them and Associated has them on order. The B4 shaft will fit but you will need to ensure that it is limited to the same downstroke as the B44 shafts as there is a difference in length.

Any car that has the shock shafts as exposed as they are on the B44 is vunerable to breakages. I used to have a 501X and always had at least a couple of pairs of front shock shafts in the parts box as they are exposed as well. With the speeds that we are getting out of brushless gear and current batteries anything will break when hitting something and parts are exposed.

Best thing to do is contact associated direct, or post on the rc10b4.com forum where factory drivers and engineers view daily. Try make the problem aware and i'm sure they will help fix the problem.. or even replace your dodgy shafts (ooowerrrr)
