Batley played host to round 4 of the National series in 2006. A dry but
dull morning greeted the racers for the 2wd event. The track looked good
but a couple of areas needed caution, the clay banked corner needed great
care and an inside line. A hole opened up at the top left corner of the
track near the end of the lap, hard to see from the rostrum but hitting it
could send your car cartwheeling into the fence.
Neil Cragg was back on top taking TQ and winning all three legs of the A final.
A new skatepark had been opened next to the track since the last time a
national was held at batley. This provided a great opportunity for some "showing off" if you could afford the parts to fix your car that is. I
think I'm right in saying it was Lee Martin who jumped jump a quarter pipe,
over a metal fence, across a gap and into the waiting arms of Neil Round
standing precariously atop a tall fence. What a stunt, if only someone
could work out a way to incorporate this into the racing. :)
