A challenging track awaited the 129 drivers at the start of the National season at Kidderminster track. The track is a mix of mainly astro turf with some dirt, brick and tarmac sections.
Temperatures in the morning were freezing but with the sun out for a decent portion of the day it warmed a little.
Tyres for the day were Schumacher mini spikes or ballistic mini pins, with most people running the latter in pink (soft) or green (harder) compounds. The grip levels were very high as the track remained dry through most of the day. The straight led onto the sweeping corner and straight up to the next corner of the track up and over the rise and down round a hair pin, This all meant that speeds round the end of the straight were high and there was plenty of grip rolling here. The centre of the track had a small straight which led 90 degrees onto a jump which was hard to judge exactly where it was (same colour as everything else) and through a dirt chicane which- if you got off line, threw you into a deep pile of loose dirt and a loss of time. Awesome drive from Neil Cragg once more to win the first National of the year Personally, I had a terrible day only really getting my car going well in time for the final with some setup advice from Bradders. Thanks to him for that, the car felt much improved and I was happy to settle for 2nd in my final. |
