The 2nd National of the year was held at the Tiverton track, an indoor horse riding arena which doubles up as an indoor track. The result isn't perfect as only a short amount of time, and limited work can be put into preparing the track, so no US style jumps here. Still, this is the only dirt track in the National series and sorts the men from the boys, as it were. The track was wet early on and was never to dry up totally. The surface had been rolled and nicely prepared but still soft and began breaking upearly on and continued throughout the day. Round by round qualifying was used, which was a good choice given the track. This did mean early heats always had a small advantage as the last heat of the round would be qualifying on a worse track. The track had just one small jump (dirt) and a wooden table top / corner peice which couldn't really be jumped. The track surface provided plenty of challenge though. Danny McGee won the meeting with his Modified BK2 / XXXCR proto, after a really scrappy first leg of the A final with cars going over the top of each other all over the place. Excellent stuff. |
