Comparing against the Jconcepts BJ4x4

rear axles inline, this is how the fronts appear, the kyosho (right) is just short of the BJ4.

The Kyosho is obviously a similar beast to the Jconcepts BJ4x4 as i have already mentioned, the chassis layout is very similar though the materials used are very different. It costs a lot in terms of design time and investment to make a moulded chassis which is the route kyosho have chosen, they need the car to be a success and sell well to recoup that investment.

A quick comparison of the cars on the table didnt really reveal much so i took photos front and rear keeping the camera on a static tripod, this gives a better understanding of the similarities. We know the BJ4x4 works well, and looking at them side by side its hard to think the kyosho will be any different.

On its standard (long wheelbase) setting, the kyosho is a few MM shorter than the BJ4x4, but the BJ is a long car to begin with so this isnt as bad as it sounds, in fact it could help the car on the sort of high traction tracks we have in the UK.

Front End

The front looks very similar in geometry to the BJ4, diff is the same height.

Read End

Again the rear diff looks a very similar height, both cars are leaning over here due to the fact they both have motors and no cells, but they match up well, the inner camber link ball stud appears to be the same height as does the shock tops.

The wing is lower on the kyosho but as this is adjustable it can probably be brought up to a similar height to the BJ4.

Access to the motor screws is better on the ZX-5.
