You can use the Losi or Schumacher wings mounts on the S2Evo

shame it wont be in orange :(

Jonathan from Atomic says the gearboxes will almost certainly be black when the S2 EVO is ready - though other plastic parts could well be in a different colour / available to order possibly?

I'd have one as a shelf queen

JC has loads off colours to play with. Orange was a colour that looks nice with CF, although saying that the blue looks good too.

Not a problem to do a coloured gearbox if its for the shelf ;) the issue i have is the plastic i use has a low melting point, so my concern is that if your motor gets hot which passes to the motorplate, it could start to effect the plastic in the gearbox which then leads to gears not meshing correctly. I have incorporated a heatsink / thermal barrier between the motorplate and gearbox but until we do some testing i don't know how effective it will be.

The black plastic would be what has been used on the S2 and i know that is not effected by temps.

Tony when are these out mate!
That chassis we were talking about is it off this?

Hi Gaz,

I have an S2-Evo to play with and like JC has said he can make any shape he wants, so we can test any configuration possible.

I was not happy with the kit C4.1 chassis in a few different ways (cost being one of them), so I have had some aluminium ones made. The S2-Evo is backwards compatible so yes this is what we were speaking about with my C4.1 Setup.

Is it nylon? if yes it is ok

Is it nylon? if yes it is ok

Nylon needs to high a temperature (600F / 320C ) to extrude with my machine, and also gives off toxic fumes as well so not to nice, my machine use's PLA.

I was reading somewhere of someone testing PLA components for quadrotors had to redesign for thread strength - might hold up in a car application though

Thing is, the orange parts are produced on a 3D printer, and 3D printers don't really produce volume manufactured quality parts.

They are primarily designed for producing 1 off prototype parts, and are just about good enough to do simple fit and function testing, to help prove an idea is viable before committing to large scale manufacturing investment, and not really for long term or high performance strength.

The material is not the whole story, the process the part is produced with is another factor, and the type of process Jonathon is using is not really a high strength process.

Not only that, but the cost of parts off a 3D printer is relatively high...so not the sort of process you'd want to make any volume of parts in either!

I'm sure final production parts will be machined from solid rather than printed!

A couple of points re your post :) We don't volume manufacture so small volumes from a 3D printer is fine and also has benefits like colour customization etc. And i could always buy a 2nd machine ;)

Costs of parts from a 3D printer is actually low and very efficient, as there is no wastage, you are only putting material were you need it.

I have been surprised how strong the parts actual are from the printer, i have made wishbones which simply do not flex, but by adjusting the fill of plastic within the part you can tune to your requirements. And when you design parts you incorporate into the design what works well with the printer to get the best possible parts.

Also a lot depends on the machine you have and what resolution you can print at and how well it is setup. This does have a large effect of the quality of the part. I have printed at a 50 micron layer height and the quality of the parts is very good. If you have seen the Evo in the flesh you would see.

But you are correct that the primary point of the machine is to produce proto type parts, but the option is there to produce small runs of parts, or produce parts made to order at a realistic price. Which you simply cannot do with mass produced parts :)

When and where is the planned testing - would love to have a look. Hope you are running it at Belgium Tony to compare lap times with the C4. Looks awesome in the flesh - chassis may be expensive but will be worth it if it takes away the issue of the bending
