Does anybody know any info regarding LPG conversions from a Diesel engine? Im sick of the rising Diesel costs and im wondering if LPG is the way to go?

you have to be doing some serious mileage to recoup the expense. It mixes the Deisel and LPG in about a 75%/25% ratio, which doesn't sound much, but it is a two fold gain!

You use less fuel cause the LPG is being used, and you use less fuel because the engine has more power due to the higher calorific value of the LPG which means you don't need such a heavy right foot.

Thats what i was after. It is for my new van that i use for work. Possibly do about 15K+ a year so probs not much? I thought it was 100% LPG. Thats why i was asking as i didnt have a clue. I hace ben told that my local council do grants for the conversion but i dont believe it myself. I only get 250 miles max for £50 worth of diesel an i personally think thats crap!
The van is a Fiat Scudo 2.0 Litre TD.
How much do the conversions cost? Would my warranty be void?
Thanks for the reply.

when I had my 4 cylinder petrol engine converted, it cost £1400 +vat, and if it is a trade vehicle I think the tax is rebatable. The work takes 2-3 days, the biggest saving would be on tank size to be honest, the bigger the tank, the bigger the cost.

You really need to find a reputable garage that is certified to do the conversion, and yes, I would think it would invalidate your warranty. Speak to your Fiat dealer.

Also, find a good Gas supplier, that the Taxi firms use and they may negotiate a lower rate for the gas than advertised (48.6p a litre to me at the moment from 55.1)

My VW Transporter T4 Petrol was converted about 4 years ago and it has been very good. It now has 187000 miles on the clock so is just running in!.

My dad had his 4.6litre Range Rover converted a few years ago, he has made massive savings - we have a private tank to fill from however he was down in norfolk last week though and had to fill up at a garage - it was 69pence/litre, so be mindfull that prices seem to be on the increase and to try and factor this into your payback timescale.

LPG is the way to go! You can get grants I believe, not sure on the conditions, I think the vehicle has to be fairly new, anyway cant hurt to apply...LPG is awesome, I have a LPG Ford transit long-wheel-base high-cube van, which weighs nearly 2 tons & is about 8 & a half feet tall, but on the motorway cruising at 50 I can get it down to around 8p a mile, which is the same as I get cruising at the same speed in a 1.3 Nissan Micra. Not sure if converting from a diesel will give you the same milage though cos mines a petrol engine.

the Diesel, you got to be seeing some miles on the clock each week to recoup the loss of the conversion
