i bought a SP reventon r speedo a while back, put it in the car and hadn't used it, so i took my Durango 410 out for a spin today just to make sure its still working fine, well it did for the first 3 or 4 minutes and it started to play up on me.
the car would cut out whilst using the throttle but it would let me brake, the car stopped and then it would run by itself until i tapped the brake again. the speedo was very hot to touch so im thinking the overheat protection kicked in but the motor was warm to touch. i haven't over-geared it ( as ive learnt my lesson from that), its not under-geared either, im running a 22 tooth pinion with a 87 tooth spur and im using the fan on the speedo.
can anyone help me? please don't say its a knackered speedo as i cant afford another one! and i thought speed passion was a good make but this is the second one ive had which has played up!
thanks jake

This might not be the best news, but the reventon r is the most troubled esc currently. Just read all 3 pages of the reventon r problems thread and you'll see the issues with it. I was going to get one, but now I'm going with dualsky. Sorry to hear anothet victim of the r!
Just to add, sp are a good brand, its just this one's a bit dodgy.

I can only echo buggy#0... they're really crappy speedos. See what Schumacher can do for you, but mine just went in the bin. No point getting a replacement when it's a PoS.

Just out of curiosity, what servo are you using?

Im using the low profile savox servo
I took it out again earlier and when is stopped i checked the speedo but this time it was cool, i turned it off and back on and it worked fine for a couple of minutes then stopped again
I might go back to the fusion exceed if it carries on

It has a thermal cut-off that seems to come in very low, but if you turn it off, you better keep an eye on the temps. Check the other thread on it.

The Reventon R is only rated at 70a.
I would say it's probably working near its limits with a 6.5 motor in a 4wd.

I have 2 r's turn the low voltage off its happens to me as my batteries are just 25c so voltage drops to low, u need brand new high c rating batteries with most new esc happens the same with my gt pro and hobby wing v3
And esc with the most faults are the v2 lrp and nosram, most ppl just don't get the help and bad mouth everything to quickly I had 2 nosram and both failed and have seen at lease 8-9 others fail at my local track but if u get a good one they make ur car fly and as for the sp r and pro they are so smooth

Funny, my SP-R lasted all of three weeks. Replaced it with an LRP SXXTCV2 and i've been using that since June without an issue, same motor, same gearing.

Getpip is on the mark the specs of the reventon pro are 70 and 7.5 turn lowest wind recomended the lrp sxx ssays 400a 4.5 turn thats a big difference in capability
i think as mentioned before you are on the limit or over if youre running a 6.5 in 4wd
im not preaching all reventon are ace and faultless, its like pitting a ferrari against a mini and saying there the same
wont cure your problems advice like this but may explain your problems though

might of found the problem, the low voltage cutoff as set at 3.8v and i checked the battery and it was down to about 3.7v per cell so it was my **** up, sorry and thanks for the advice/help! hopefully ill be able to try it once the batteries are charged
the reventon r is actually rated at 5.5t which is what im using, i know its on the limit but without the shell its running nice and cool so im going to try and sort out the airflow through the shell, im going to cut out a hole in the front window and mount a more powerful fan where the hole is, plus cut out the air ducts

I have no idea if you do regionals or not, but a shell like this will fail scrutineering.

Speed Passion rate the 'R' as a 70A ESC with a 5.5T Limit
But have updated the web page to say that using boosted profiles like the Stock1 profile the limit drops to 7.5 !!
Just go careful with settings and heat on ESC and Motor !
