I'm in a bit of a pickle with this car I want one then I don't then I want one then I don't, so I was hoping you lot could twist my arm? How good is this beast?

+1.

Raced mine outdoors for the first time on Sunday and was very impressed. Really well ballanced and the car reacted well to the smallest of changes. Just need to improve my driving now :eh?:

The car is a revelation. Works well on high grip tracks (Silverstone indoor astro) and develops great traction so also works on wet/cold outdoor astro tracks.

I have been blown away by the quality and speed of the car.

James.

Have been very impressed with the RB6 so far. First outing outdoors on Sunday at kidderminster, very impressed with the amount of traction it generated, despite the slippy conditions.
The car also works very well in high grip conditions such as silverstone, small change in shock oil and ride height and its good to go.

I bought the car on the strength of the feedback from this forum. The views that it has the ability to generate plenty of grip in all conditions and feel well balanced were my main reasons.
I have yet to finish building the car but I'm very impressed with the build quality.

I don't have one.

Tried one briefly last week and liked it. Alot.
Did I like it £100 over the competition? No, but you might

I dont mind the extra cost cos I have a kyosho car at the mo and have owned a few of the cheaper options and the quality difference to me is far and away better than the cheaper options and worth the price tag but do i need another one of course I do :) the house beast however thinks differently!

Feedback above seems consistently positive (and that has not happened on many similar threads for other manufacturers cars) and the RB6s I’ve seen running have looked very good but are there no bad points about the car (ignoring price if you consider it expensive)?

The only weak points I know of are the steering rack (exotec has some bling for this) and the rear hinge pin holders.
Especially the hinge pin holders are a weak point and there is not a RR alu replacement available.

Well, my wife didn't like the new car obviously :bored:
And I got a good price on it...

But the more I drive it the more I love it, one of the best I've ever driven, super stable and really responsive to small setups changes.

Didn't even try the rear motor yet but some have tried it on dirt and found the improvement over the RB5 even bigger.

I'm set for 2013, might buy another one for dirt/rear motor.

Yes and kept it for race and dry/high grip.

Most 2013 nationals will be on dirt here.

Been running K cars for a while (first gen Vega) so this new one was a must have for me.

Most important thing for me is to improve my driving though

On the face of it the car looks alot like a Losi 22 ! But we all know it's all in the detail ;) So before i get lynched for the above statement what makes it so different ?

Thought so at first, and considering I got a 22 at some point back then I was a bit afraid to go full cycle after a lots of cars but it got nothing from the 22 handling wise, way better (IMHO) and far better quality.

Just finished the diff and got the rear bulkhead on the chassis :) Loving it. Took me a few minutes to work out why I had to put 3mm grub screws in the outer link holes on the bulkhead, but a clever idea

Don't forget to use long ballstuds on the rear bulkead, even some nut or you'll break it

Just to detract from all the positive comments.... I haven't seen one that's handled well in very low grip conditions and this includes some very high level drivers. I was so close to buying one and I'm really glad I didn't.

So for super low grip with a 2wd buggy what would you go for? I don't remember any rear drive car that is very good in low grip. Tbh I've deffo had worse cars in poor conditions. It's early days for setups and chassis tuning I'd say.

Compared to what?

andoiwebb
20-11-2012, 09:58 AM
Compared to whatever the rest of the cars there were, the usual suspects of centros, durangos, various Vegas and a 1980s rc10. I only posted cos everybody that owns one and posts on oople says they're absolutely the best 2wd they've ever driven, then say "well it's early days yet with set up" when somebody makes an observation. I'm sure a good set up will be found over time, I know some are modding the rear wishbones to get more weight over the rear and playing around with other bits, but at the moment, I remain unimpressed. I like kyosho as well, which is frustrating.

This does suprise me.. this car is awesome..has loads of rear grip.. and ive never struggled with lack of it!

Worksop and Chadderton.. the car is perfect and they aint the grippiest of surfaces..

The RB6 in my mind has everything... ive tried and run different cars over the last 12 months and always went back to my old MCS... but now since ive had the RB6, ive retired my MCS to a shelf queen as the RB6 is now 1st choice.

You need to drive one yourself and stick with it how it comes out of the box, dont change shocks to the small bores.. as the Big Bores are in my mind the way to go.. Ive heard that others have tried them without success.

You say about modding rear wishbones?? you can adjust wheelbase both inboard or outboard, so should be no need to modding wishbones?

If your looking for set up advice etc, send me a pm, or indeed point the people who are struggling my way! :woot::)

Cheers
Nick

Last time out at Kidderminster my car was simply amazing in low grip, indoors on slippery floor it's always been something special too.

On Sunday my car had more rear end grip than I knew what to do with in practice then for the last minute or so it seemed to go and remained gone all day.
Tried Adam's after the finals and his car was good.

Once I had got some perscription pain killers back in me (left them at work on friday, couldn't even hold a driver properly on Sunday let alone work on the car much) I found the reason why. Seems that the legendary Kyosho plastics quality had caught me out.

Just before the car started feeling different at the end of practice I had been smashed good and hard by another car (which broke apart like an eggshell) and my RB6 just rolled on, seems that the impact was enough to bend both rear shafts and 3 out of the 4 rear hinge pins!!! Any other brand of car would have exploded with such an impact in such cold conditions but in true Kyosho fashion the RB6 barely showed a scratch.
If it had of broken I would have taken it apart and found the bent shafts & hinge pins and carried on having more grip than you would know what to do with, comparatively speaking of course.

Is it possible for a car to be too strong??? ;)

As I said to you on Sunday Andy I knew SOMETHING had to be wrong as the car has always been awesome in low grip. If you ever want a drive of mine just ask!

Anybody wants a really good slippery setup just shout (note I say really good not beyond physics, the limit is always going to be the tires ability to grip).
I believe a simple increase in front droop would take this setup to the next level so will be trying that next time out.

Best part is that the difference between this and the super high grip astro / carpet setup is just a few minutes work!! Now that is impressive.

I will try to get it up on Petit ASAP.

so help us to help you?
what track are you having problems with?
what surface and setup are you using ??
and who is it thats modding wishbones to get grip?
i just cant see any of what your saying, matthew my son has been running the car for the last 5-6 weeks and loves it, it works better at the mo on llow grip so how you can say it doesnt baffles me?

No, I haven't got one. I did want one and almost bought one, so I've been studying them intently everywhere I've been, hoping to see them really kick some ass. I haven't yet, hence my disappointment. I want to see them go well and I'm sure they will in time.

Confusing. Take it from those of us who have come from different cars. Its a great car mate. Ive only been out twice with mine, and all I've done to improve it was go up 5wt on my rear shocks from where I started. I'm not sure what you expect from a car, but they all need to be driven well to succeed. I've never seen one come straight out of the box and dominate everything as you appear to expect? As said before, the only way you'll know if its for you or not would be to try one. Plenty of offers on here for a quick blast I'm sure.

t8rtot
20-11-2012, 02:40 PM
So lets be apart of the solution and not the problem, order one up and get running around right and share the setups..

Also if anyone is having slight traction issues, removing the screws from side guards will pick that up..

We dont feel that your observations are justifyed though, i've driven a few rb6's now and it's like looking at a double rainbow. You mention you had a vega?, well i was at kiddie the other day watching a ok driver mark hall go round with his, and he struggled to go around corners and keep it in a straight line, even to the point where i thought a 3 yr old was driving the car.
does this make the vega rubbish?, no it was just a case of poor setup and bad driving.

Ahhh, breaking into dean's account again, Rich? I don't remember saying I had a vega on this thread, I'll have to check.

Oh Christ, I see the Gestapo really must have answers:
I'm not going to name 'top drivers' as I don't want to cause them any annoyance, though Jon Legg was struggling.
I can't remember who told me about filing rear wishbones, was it you Roger, last Sunday? Apologies if it wasn't, it was somebody at kiddy.
Tracks: broxtowe, Kidderminster & cov.
I'll just agree that the rb6 is the most amazing piece of kit ever to save anymore tedious & angry responses.

For what it's worth, I tried an RB6 on Sunday, just a dozen or so laps.

I drive a Centro and love it and i am not in the market to change, but the Kysoho was amazing to drive and for sure was quicker than I was with the Centro.

It was incredibly forgiving, tons of grip front and rear on what was a very changable damp surface down at Surrey & Hants. It just felt very easy to drive fast. If I was buying a car now then it would be hard not the go for the Kyosho. Very impressed.

RogerM

Andy mate. Of course you are entitled to make observations & have opinions. I think what is happening hereiI genuine amazement at those observations.
I've never driven a more blanced 2wd & it seems like the majority agree.

Once I get mine back together you are more than welcome to have a drive and see why.

It certainly wasn't me who suggested modifying the car, only thing I have done is turn the steering drag link around to reduce ackerman which is a standard tuning feature.

I am stil shocked at how well my car went around in such a disabled state, how good would it have been in tip top order?

Only place I've struggled at all is on tight high grip indoor surfaces as they are alien to me having no indoor club within 50 miles but you can ask Matt Owen what his comment was at the end of r4 at the last silverstone meeting, seems I have that sorted too now.

As I say you're welcome a drive whenever you want, not sure what meetings your doing where there is free track time though as I'm not doing any of the Coventry MAM meetings because I dislike the track so much. Let me know what your thinking of going to.

Hi Andy
I just read your comments and clearly you have seen some cars that may not be performing. I am curious though who the 'very high level' drivers are? If you was at a meeting and these drivers were present, there is no reason for you not to name, as it was clearly public. Its all about opinions and what makes our world go round at the end of the day.
I would also like to know what tracks these are, as i would like to visit myself and discover how slippery these places really are for myself.
If you don't want to publicly say then please send me an email to [email protected] were it will stay confidencial......
Many thanks, Tony Evdoka, Team Kyosho

I think you should at the end of the day you have made some comments that might put someone off buying the RB6, i'm thinking of getting one and I run low grip dusty tracks in the summer so would be keen to find out why they werent performing, it would be good to find out if there was a particular issue that day or a set up that didnt work or if the car was just struggling, but unless you say who and where the facts wont come out
