Does anyone know where I can get good competition spec race packs, 7.2V NiMh, or am I better off building up my own ?
Racing Tamiya Mini with brushed motors.
Thanks in advance.

I used a lipo from here in mine. http://component-shop.co.uk/html/li-po_car_packs.html
Their nimh packs are quite reasonable too.
You'll have to check delivery costs of course.

Not allowed to use lipo under our club rules.
No one seems to stock top notch stick packs anymore :(

They still make the cells, but because they aren't used for racing no one tests them then slaps a premium price on the best ones.
Vapextech (http://www.vapextech.co.uk/acatalog/High_Power_Model_Control_Batteries.html) have a good reputation for good quality cells.

Your club needs to change rules. NiMH is a dead technology and it's not fair to expect people to race with it.

Nimh are still the most popular battery technology in r/c cars around the world. Racers might not be interested in them but racers are only a tiny minority of r/c car users. Nimh will only be 'dead' when they stop including them in RTR cars.
There's also the fact no BRCA legal lipo can actually fit inside a Tamiya Mini.

Terry.sc shore there are rounded edge lipo on the lipo list ? Also all the nimh stick packs that most model shops sell are not brca approved lol so why worry about brca list when the cells on there are no longer made or really hard to find
The club should go with the times a cheap lipo would cost u same as a good nimh pack

I would like to see the Club switch to Lipo, but under our present rules we must use NiMh cells, so whether there is a lipo out there for Mini's is irrelevant.
Perhaps things will change in the future but for the time being we are stuck with NiMh.
Thanks for the suggestions so far. Most of these packs seem to be just for bashing, are there no competition packs out there ?

To be honest most of the old 'competition' packs were the same 'bashing' packs with a racing manufacturers logo slapped on it and a big price rise after the best cells had been creamed off for the even more expensive top spec packs.
For a competition pack how about a pack of Intellect IB4600s, (http://www.conrad-uk.com/ce/en/product/206394/Intellect-NiMH-Sub-C-Racing-pack72-V-4600-mAh-Connector-system-Tamiya) and there are several competition packs still available at DMS-Racing (http://www.dms-racing.com/fruzat/wratheju.asp?submit=true&manufacturer=&itemtype=&search=nimh)
