View Full Version : NE Regional Venues for 2009

baD
29-01-2009, 10:52 PM
As a spill over from another thread, it appears that YORCC are running an event for the NE & one for the ME at somewhere called Blyth.
Now if YORCC call their new track New York, there will be even more confusion about how long it will take to get there, than there is already, between the various places called Blyth in the (so called) North East.

If there is another thread re Venues for NE Off-Road Regionals, can someone point me to it? If so, please delete this. If not, would anyone else like to share their views here?

As a comparison,
ME round trip of their venues in 2009 is 175 miles
MW mileage around theirs is 251 miles
NE - as was, (ex Bury) was 216 miles - add Bury and it becomes 290 miles - then add Blyth (the right one) instead of York, you get 321 miles

As a starter comment - stretching the region so far, will simply limit the numbers going to the extemity venues, and whereas Blyth may well benefit from non-regional entries, the Northern Clubs will not.
I hope for the continuance of Off-Road clubs in the Far North, that Bury is part of NE 2009 and Blyth is part of ME 2009.

haha, so basically we need to take the blyth track out of the NE regional series for next year

Really?

Must just be me who doesnt want 4 rounds of grass racing then the for NE 2009 series...

because Blythe isn't in the North East?

Or the North?

Or the East?

For my 2 cents worth if our region can't be bothered to support the tracks and clubs it's already got (batley...), who can be bothered to drive all the way to Blythe?

I though we were having a NE at Blyth little Ben?

Come on G let us know.

Regarding the distances Dont forget that the ME meetings are only sundays, so its double the distances as you will race at each venue twice.
I worked this out last year and the ME actually worked out at more travelling than the NE.

No venues or dates are confirmed yet, we (the NE consortium) are working on them, so there is nothing to tell.

I may be wrong, and playing Devil's Advocote, but was the Blyth venue not a NE Venue before both Bury and Jarrow?

Therefore if the region had not moved so far north/west, the previous club at Blyth would not have folded?

Stu

This thread subject appears every year, normally ending in a bit of a slanging match about what is where and who drives the most distance.

It's never ultimately helpful to the region(s) or the sport in general.

Stupid internet forums are not the place for it.

There is no such thing as a defined regional boundary, the consortium can consider applications from any club, regardless of its geographical position.

I say just be thankful to race on a decent track lads, regardless of driving time. We in the ME were last year when we used one of the EOE tracks to race on :)

If the Blyth track is where Worksop raced then yes for some years they raced in the NE Region - and even back then a good proportion of drivers wished they would go back to the ME.
I wasn't aware they folded ! Can anyone shed light on that?

If this is a stupid forum I am suprised you admit to reading it, let alone writing in it ! ;)

Unfortunately there are are few places for the masses to air our views so that the NE Consortium can take on board.
I personally feel that the NE can run a good series at 5 regional venues without including Blyth.

Lee does the distance change if its 1 or 2 days racing....???

Because if its a single day event, you may have to travel up on a different weekend for the second class that was not catered for the first time round.

So, you would have to travel 4 times there/back (twice there, twice back).

Whereas, if it's a weekender, then you only need to travel the distance twice (once there, once back).

Does that make sense? ;)

HTH.

Here we go again the same topic every year . Lets talk about distance then i live in halifax and i dont moan about travelling up to race in the north east. I hope Blyth is in our calender for regionals.

ps maybe there should be a new region consisting of Blyth , Batley , Bury and Southport . Then i wouldn't have to travel as far:lol: (this last comment is a wind up not to be taken seriously)

surely a wider choice of tracks is better for everybody.it is each persons preference to as many or as few meetings they attend.not all rounds count do they?so missing the farthest shouldnt matter to most of us should it?is bury entering ne region as well as nw?hope so.thanks jez.

Get your facts right.
Worksop as always been in the North East as was Scarboro,Harrogate.
We never had to Travel as far as Durham and Jarrow as they had there own region.
Do yo see any of us who have to travel at least 50 miles [currently] to get to a outdoor meeting complaining.
May be you should check how the regions were originally formed and which clubs had a big part in it. You will find that those in the FAR NORTH were not in it.

Maybe you should check how the regions are now - that's what counts not how it was when you were 12. I've no personal problem with Blythe because I'm not doing regionals again this year. I was just pointing out that as a N/E region Blythe goegraphicaly does not qualify (which scarborough and harrogate do...)
My original post is still valid - with Batley struggling to survive due to lack of people, is Blythe viable?

I think if people think a bit, its pretty obvious that we will be visiting Blyth as part of our regional series.

1. Its run by york club, why would they race on a field when they have a purpose built astro (all weather) track

2. It has a national, so it would be daft not to hold a regional.

3. York is the local club to the regional rep and one of the people behind the resurrection of the blyth track.

Now for me, without seeing dates etc, i would say it had a fantastic chance of getting a NE regional

As Blyth[ correct spelling] as never moved how can it not be in the North East region.

Perhaps the point is, that since Worksop left the NE region in the late '90's, the farthest NE drivers have had to travel South was to York, until in 2005, 6 & 7, Bury joined in. Again in 2008, York was the farthest south. Adding Blyth in again for 2009 adds another 110 miles round trip for all those living North of York, and being, as likely, a full weekender event, many will have to toe a caravan this extra mileage or fork out on accomodation.

cheers Lindsay, one more for my Regional history thread (http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18825) in the North East section. I recall going to one event there.

Do you recal the location?

Was it the one on a bit of decent slope with a pot hole that had to be missed up near the top?

Did Sheffield also run an interclub?

The event was behind the back of either a large bakers or Brewery if I remeber rightly.
Not far from Hillsbrough, home of the mighty Blue and White wizards!!

They were demolishing the site behind throughout the day if my memory serves me right.

The one with the pothole was behind the Waverley Arms in Rotherham, another one to add to your history books. I remember it well as it's where I got my F2 for the first time, and the rostrum fell over in high winds. 1992 would be the year of the Rotherham event as for the one near Hillsborough, I'm thinking 1995 or later.

I love the journey up north to race there, as I do think it's one of the (if not THE) best region around. So despite distance I will travel to it.
It shouldn't really be about disctance travelled, more about the venue and host club. And i they're good then I will travel.:D

Good point Tel.
Surely it's about people turning up to compete against the best drivers around, and also their mates.
Quite a few people from other regions turn up / have turned up to our region because at one-time we had a tough region. We used to have the highest number of F1 drivers at nationals and regionals were uber-competitive.

Rather than people slating off venues before they race at them / travel to them. Let the comittee decide the venues and then if you don't want to go, don't go.

1992 would be the year of the Rotherham event as for the one near Hillsborough, I'm thinking 1995 or later.

god i remeber that, jamie booth was on ths rostrum too!! can remember seeing him hanging on

rotherham buggy club must have been one then in the NE regions? still got a rbc mug some where!!

used to race on grass at rawmarsh (hall?) then moved the the pub site, then went to the "other" pub site with big steel rostrum

Hi, As far as I was aware The Blythe Track as run North East Regionals before, it's always been a good venue. It's nice to see it back and I wish all concerned good luck. THe North East as far as I remember ran from Worksop in the South to Newcastle in the North, From the Pennines in the West and to the Coast in the East :p

You are right of course, and this same discussion took place back then, with a vast number of drivers for the mid & northerly end of the region stating that stretching the region to Worksop in the South was too far of a stretch. :p
And the Worksop drivers also were unhappy to have to travel so far North for most of the rounds.
The point relevant to today is the same - the region is too big for a number who would like to complete a series without having to travel so far. Answer - smaller regions.

But the people that are putting all the hard work in are actually from further north and are travelling down this way most weekends to get the Blyth track up and running. So travelling can't be that bad.

And it's only for one round for the more northern of you. For us down here, we have to travel up there for the rest of the meetings.:eh?: But we aren't moaning about doing so, as long as we can race against some excellent and friendly people.
:D

As the crow flies, its only about 18 or so miles further than Jarrow is from Co Durham. So surely its not that much of a trek? Also its virtually straight off of the A1, so very easy to get to. Isn't Co durham more suited to the NW?

Erm No! Durham is Definately in N/E.. :o

As for the travelling issue, Myself and a couple of other Jarrow members got together and decided to car share. We've done all rounds of the Worksop indoor series and its cost on average about £12 each per round for fuel. Thats a round trip of 260 miles and we heve to get out of bed at 4.00am and dont get back til after 8.00pm, but we do it because its a great competition with the best drivers and they build good tracks.

So if a club is willing to put a lot of time into a purpose built track for us to do battle on then a few extra miles aint gonna stop me!

Fingers crossed Blyth gets a round in the N/E

This is exactly my point. If you enjoy your racing, and enjoy the people that you race with then you will travel a little further.

Thats what I'm doing this year to do the NE regionals.:D

Bill. It seems you are quoting 'Vast Numbers' and 'Worksop drivers...who are unhappy' without actually backing up your statement.
Bearing in mind most of the 'Mid and Northerly' end of the region regularly turn up to the Worksop Indoor series, which you will be unaware of. Also, there are plenty of Worksop and beyond drivers who turn up to the 'Northerly' meetings without complaining.

The 'Old Worksop Club' left the North East region as the club organisers themselves were at that time racing in the Mid East region (The Allcrofts). No other reason... simple as. Having spent a lot of my spare time along with other people who are still on here working on the 'Old Worksop Track', I for one was disappointed at this decision. I'm glad to see the track back on the map and look forward to racing on it.

I personally don't think the region is too big for a number who would like to complete a series. I'd rather race in a region with 10 heats like there was on Sunday at Jarrow, than at a regional with 3 heats.

After all, you can miss out rounds and still complete a series.

Rather than stifling possibly the biggest regional series this country has by geography and here-say, why don't you let the committee decide the venues and then vote with your feet.

What do you require Adam documented evidance for Bill's comment!! I'm sure Bill would not make this statement if it were untrue and was involved and in-attendance back then at regional and consortium level to be aware of the general feelings at the time. Your comment appears set, purely, to belittle Bills post so others will discount it. You also seem to find it very easy to make judgement on what Bill is also "not aware of". Its very easy to be high and mighty on a keyboard!!

Worksop series is just that, "Worksop Series" people attend because it is a great series, no matter where they come from, its not the "North East Worksop Series", hence people are not misconceived into thinking this is a series in the North East.

There appears to be two groups on this issue, one who are willing to travel to any venue to race on the best tracks possible and and best competition and those that want to race in a smaller geographical area. I'm not saying either are right or wrong, its down to personal choice, the first does seem very similar to the National series though.

To be named "North East" "Mid West" etc. regional series will give people the impression that the series will be held in that particualr region. As previously stated at some point in time, the consortium can agree, theoretically, to a meeting being held anywhere in the country. Perhaps the BRCA and their consortium representatives are misleading people into thinking these meeting are to be held in the area to which their title names are called. However if a series is short on venues do we look elsewhere in the country for a track of do you run at one venue twice??

Is having the biggest region in the country all positives?? Yes, I agree it will certainly improve the level of competition, especially for all those ultra competitive people. But for Joe Bloggs wanting to attend all these meetings as his/her racing year its not a good thing, if they are restricted from doing so for whatever reason due to the size of our theoretical region.

I'm lucky along with others to be in a position to travel if I want to. Its important to remember regionals are there as a breeding/training ground for new talent, it seems difficult enough to get new blood into the sport. Not all parents of kids wanting to be involved will want to travel long distances to get our new talent to the "regional meeting".

I'm sure I'll recieve some great replys to this, take it as you want to, its my opinion you don't have to agree!! :p

Any geographic region will have a centre point and those at one extreme of it will always moan about travelling to the other extreme. If there are enough meetings in the calendar for that reason (say 5) and 3 scores count, then if certain peeps cant travel the longer distances they don't necessarily have no.

Thinking back to last year, the 4wd series was jarrow, teeside, durham and york. Now if you live in West or South yorkshire that was at least two lengthy trips to get enough scoring rounds in.

If people want to do a regional series they should apppreciate there will be travelling involved, end of story and stop moaning. What is more a concern is that club level racing is becoming less well supported by the mid-top drivers - but this is another debate ;)

Simon.
My post was simply referring to the Statement that Bill made needs some 'grounding'.
As you say, it's easy to be high and mighty on a Keyboard, this is not my aim, nor to belittle Bill.
I'd just like people to think before they post.;)
Having raced in the North East region since 1990 (I think). I don't remember vast numbers of people not wanting to race at 'Blyth' for a regional, or people moaning about traveling.

My comment about the Worksop series was purely pointing at the fact that people from the very North of our Region are attending the series and don't seem to complain about the travelling, so why would they complain about travelling to Blyth, which is just as easy to get to.

Personally, I think regionals are the next step on from club meetings. Club meetings are where new talent should be 'nurtured'. Let's not forget about club racing, without out it we won't have clubs to 'put-on' regionals.

Our 'regional round hosting' clubs started just as clubs at some point and it's important that these clubs keep going of their own accord.

I'm sure plenty of people will attend the 'North East' Outdoor Regional series this year as they have done before. Whether they do all or some of the rounds is irrelevant, that they are doing it it surely more important.

:D

Adam, you misread my post. What I said is that "Worksop drivers also WERE unhappy" when Worksop was last in the NE region - not that the present ones are unhappy. You might want to rethink your comment. And as far as me needing to think before I post, perhaps you need to think and read before you do so. ;)
I don't know the current Worksop lot but in the 80's / early 90's many of them and the far north lot often grumbled about the long distance. No, before you ask, I don’t have proof, no tape recordings or video evidence!
Wrong on point 2 also, as I am aware of the numbers from up here who went to the excellent Worksop series.
I too am glad that another track is back on the map, no matter where it is, it's good for the sport. I just happen to think the venue should not be part of the NE regional series.
I do know how far enthusiastic drivers will go, but the point is that it is too far for the less enthusiastic, the less skilled, who we need to encouraged to get into real competitive racing.
Medders - adds that those at the extreme ends of a region will always moan, which kind of proves the point that a geographically large region will cause moans. How you can then conclude that people should just stop moaning beats me. Yes I get the point that every region will have a centre point, kind of stating the obvious, but enlarging the region makes the extremes even more extreme. If the NE region was kept as was 2008, there is nothing to stop those who love tracks outside the region from going there, whether it’s Blyth or Southend !
And as to the last two posters, what a waste of space, if they can’t enjoy a healthy debate, why bother to read it, or waste the time writing drivel, no one forces them to read this, no one is forced to read Tolstoy’s War and Peace or the Bare Arse Monthly but personally I like both. (Ok I fibbed about liking War & Peace :-))

Hi Bill,
I didn't misread the post, I mis-typed my reply (my reply should have also read were). Maybe I should re-read before I post ;)
Back then a few of the Worksop lot didn't like the travel to the North, these were the organisers and hence my later point about them moving to the Mid-East. The majority of the club and it's remaining benefactors were p###ed that they moved regions. At that time the Mid east had 2 or 3 tracks (Blyth and Holbeach). Their region died a death and has recently only really come back to life with successful clubs like Broxtowe and West Bridgeford coming into their region.

I'd hate to see our region fall into the same trap and start having declining numbers due to lack of rounds.

Geographically. (This is not a gripe). It's just fact.

When Jarrow was added to the N.E. Region is 2008. It can be noted it is 29.7 miles from the previous most northerly (consistent) venue of Teeside. (Via roads suggested by google maps).
{Removal of Bent's Park} if there is not to be a regional there this year as some are suggesting.

If Blyth is added to the N.E. Calendar this year. It can be noted it is 41.6 miles from the previous most southerly venue of Batley. (Via roads suggested by google maps)

Only 11.9 miles difference (23.8 miles total). Or to put it in real terms < £5 in fuel in the most un-economical car.

Shall we let the dates & venues come out and maybe look back at how it all went at the end of the year.

Other people have pointed out it is a hobby, without clubs/regions putting on a series it won't be a hobby, our cars will be dust-gathering.

It isn't bickering, it's airing of opinions, which is what forums are for, as well as writing utter b####ks and winding up your mates!

I'm done on this topic.:bored:

All this will be put to bed by the time the dates are out and the outdoor season starts  we had good turnouts at all the venues we had last year, we had 3 venues far up north last year (jarrow, south shields, teeside) and many from south end of the region traveled up with no problems and now there will be 2 further down the south of the NE region this year and now your squabling like kids that your going to have to travel further down the region now because you don't have the majority of the venues up your end. There will most likely be best 3 out of 4 or 5 rounds so you can always miss the furthest one away if you don't want to travel few more miles or even share lifts and half costs of getting there between you!
I'm glad blyth is coming back into the region as we've only had 1 multisurface track for years which is batley and the rest been just grass so it'll be nice to have an even mixture of tracks :) Not really bothered reading this thread it's got too much s***e in it to read, we have a good region so do your bit and support all the venues that put the hard effort in to put on the great meetings for you.
