why does it cost to much money for the brca. then when you race £5 every meet plus parts its a joke

cost so much,? its not dear and thats to cover you incase you hit someone with the car as well. the race fees are nothing to do with the brca, nether are parts, the only joke is you posting daft comments without thinking them through, then complaining when people rip the p+++ out of you

It's to do with insurance i think. BRCA members are covered at all race meets against injury ect. The £5 goes to the clubs upkeep and general running.
Si Coe
05-09-2009, 11:24 AM
And different clubs charge different amounts anyway. The little indoors club I run at is just £2, Bury's big indoor series is £10 (but some of the money is used to buy a couple of kits that are raffled). And many clubs offer memberships which include the BRCA cost AND give you a reduction on race fees.
Relatively speaking race fees are a tiny part of the costs!

I completely agree.
Firstly, the BRCA licence fee pays for the "Third Party Liability" that the BRCA licence gives you.
For your information, if you hit someone whilst out bashing (to the best of my knowledge) you are not covered if that person decides to sue you or make a claim against you...so...if you hit someone, hit their car, hit their dog, etc etc you are in the sh#t.
If you are a member of the BRCA you are covered not only at race meetings but also everywhere else.
The reason that clubs charge a fiver or so to race is because most indoor clubs need to rent their halls for the time they race and have to pay for that hall rental, plus the few thosuand pounds they pay for timing gear, carpet, track marking etc.
Outdoor halls either have had to rent the lad from councils/farmers etc or have taken a mortgage out to buy the land they use. They also have to pay for PA systems, trophies, astroturf, laptops, generators etc etc.
You brake stuff cos you crash. If I crash my Ford Escort into someone elses car on the road id break stuff in that situation.
You wonder why you get a hard time after slagging off our hobby? I agree that the bullying of you is not on, but dont come and ask stupid questions and then tell us that our governing body is a joke.
If you dont want to race, fine, bash, bashing is great fun, but dont slate what we do.

Easy answer. A great quote for you "Sell up and do something else instead"
You only needed to sit back and do the sums yourself, if you had 30 plus people turn up on your back yard you'd charge. Hire a hall out and don't charge anyone and see how long that will last. Don't forget you'd need carpet for the job as well.
Just turn up to your race days/nights and appreciate what they have done for you by giving them your fiver, as if you don't then the club might start going down then you'll have nowhere to race only car parks, back yard or a park area.
Don't forget these guy's run the track and timing gear for no profit.
Regards spares, DON'T try driving so fast and you'll not mess up and break anything.

It's not exactly expensive for the majority of people @ £15/year, then race fees on top. Unless you drink lime cordial its cheaper than going to the pub.........its all relative. If you think its lots of money, don't do it.

Sorry forgot to put it in my previous post....
Question - if you perceive the BRCA annual membership and race meeting fee too expensive, at what cost would you you find it acceptable
- no BRCA fee and free racing
- just the BRCA fee and free racing
- BRCA fee and £2 each race meet......, etc

It must be said though that racing is expensive, at least compared to bashing anyway. Fees and spares aren't really the issue, tyres, cells and motors are. Brushless and Lipo help, but race spec brushless systems cost a lot of money as do quality lipos. Sure they'll last, but its a big outlay.
Don't get me wrong, it doesn't need to cost loads. You could be running a Madrat with a 3500mah lipo, 8.5t Ezrun and Acoms 2.4 radio for less than the purchase price of a Cat SX chassis but even if your car can keep up, you'll feel outclassed. Stood on the rostrum at Southport last weekend I was the only driver in 4wd who's radio cost less than £200! When everyone around you is spending mega bucks, its easy to believe you have to in order to compete.
Edit - Oh and of course there is also fuel costs. 20 years ago there were more local clubs, so you didn't have to travel far and petrol cost less. Today I face a 45 min drive to Bury, Southport or Stockport, which means a fair fuel bill even in the Smart. Going to regionals, nationals etc only increases this further.

I have to agree with the above posts. I think you need to engage your brain before you post anything!
Go to an off road National 1/10th and you would be happy to pay a bit of money to go towards the BRCA. They all do a top job IMO.
There have always been people on here that seem to get stick one after another and then it seems to die down after a while. You never seem to learn I dont think you are real.Must be a wind up??

Ah, but you are forgetting he is a new driver, so he doesn't go to nationals, or even regionals. I can completely see his point of view. Its wrong, but I see where he is coming from.
Down at the real grass roots level, in clubs with no pretensions of ever hosting a national, where people race on a budget, and the timing is done by the good old fashioned 'push a button when the car goes round the corner' method, the BRCA seems like a distant concept.
After all, if you aren't going to nationals, what good are they to you? Well of course there is that liability insurance - but that in itself is really more important to the club than the individual driver. Most bashers aren't in the BRCA, don't have such insurance and don't get sued. The key point of the insurance is so that if you or anyone else gets hurt at the club the club isn't sued.
Now I understand completely that without such policies clubs wouldn't be allowed to operate in this day and age, and therefore realise the importance of BRCA membership without which no organised racing would occur - but that probably isn't that clear to a first time racer.
And its not just in RC either. Lots of organised sports have governing bodies that have introduced 'competition licences' or whatever they call them with similar insurance, and found a lot of grass roots competitors mumbling about suddenly needing a licence.

There is a difference between asking genuinely why clubs charge to race and why the BRCA charges a membership fee, to saying that having to pay the BRCA and race fees is a joke.
I wasnt taking the piss in my reply, id like to hope that atleast the first two paragraphs explain to you why there are fees involved.

I dont know why you find it so expensive, i pay £20 a year for BRCA and club membership and £4 a night to race. So thats less than a packet of 20 of your best Lambert and Butlers!
Now that brushless and lipo is well established, its even cheaper once you have the initial outlay sorted.
If you think this is expensive i pay around £200-£300 every time i do a track day on the motorbike:woot:

an average race weekend in rotax max costs me about the same, more if I bend it!
I'm lucky enough to race regularly at a track that has a weird (but great) surface where used tyres are up to a second quicker than new.
RC racing is the cheapest form of motorsport going. max smiles per ££.

I kind of see vxl boys point. I think it was just an observation more than a dig. It is expensive there is no arguing with that. Not club fees and stuff thats the cheap bit its the getting started bit thats the expensive part. But if its too expensive for you then get a different hobby.

Concentrating on one car instead of ten will help keep the costs down - its always expensive to maintain more than one car

You are complaining about the cost of BRCA membership (£12) and a few quid for race meetings but you have
10 cars/trucks
9 sets of brushless speedos and motors and
6 packs of lipos

I don't work, but can afford to race, but thats it, don't have any bashing stuff at all.

I think you might be missing the point here.
Reverse your argument and you'll see:
Running 2 cars for a race season costs as much as 10 bashing cars.
which means racing is expensive. 5x more expensive than bashing. Go find a random guy off the street and tell him that 1 car is better than 5 and he'll think you are nuts! Especially when the 5 cars in question include stuff like a Savage (which can do jumps and take abuse far better than our race cars) and a Rustler VXL (which on 3S will outrun our race cars on 2S). You and I both know our race cars are better, but to the uninitiated that simply cannot be the case.

Stampy you'll be surprised but here we earn less than people in UK but we have about the same fees if not higher. I even have to pay fees to my local club I'm member of. Racing fees are even slightly higher here. And know what - we are racing. Compared to prices you put into cars it's not that much. And it's much better than driving on the road in front of house alone.

Gravel doesn't do your car or your tyres any good either...
All the kit aimed at racing dies quickly if you use it to bash around. It would be like using an F1 car for your daily commutes and complaining about the fuel efficiency and that it's uncomfortable.
As far as BRCA fees go 15-20 quid a year for insurance and racing is dirt cheap. We pay about twice that in Germany and have less races. Race fees here are also more expensive and we race on dirt so it's a minimum of 2 sets of tyres all round and people still race coz it's fun like.
If you don't want to race that's fine but don't complain about something you haven't really put much thought into...

Sorry dude but most of us guys use a new set of four tyres per meeting. Id be delighted if i got 4 weeks ( 4 meetings ) out of a set of tyres.
Even at club racing, on our smooth polished wooden floor track, if you want to be competitive its a new set of four tyres every 4 RUNS. You can stretch them out to 2 meetings but performance drops off if the track temperature is low.
You cant be going quickly enough :woot: ;)
