View Full Version : Weird Servo issue?

OK, so I have a Maverick Atom and it's had a Hitec HS-65 in it for steering for ages, using spek with my DX3.0.
All been working fine, no probs.
I just got a Helios with Spek module and decided last night to bind it to the Helios and begin using that.
Well, once I did this, the servo is buzzing pretty much the whole time, glitchy as hell and getting very hot?
I've changed all sorts on the TX to try to sort it out, the balance, the travel, etc. even when disconnected from the steering then it still buzzes, gets hot and is glitchy.
So the weird bit. If I bind back to the DX3.0 then it behaves impeccably?
Very odd. I'm thinking the servo doesn't seem to get on with me using the Helios???
So I put back in the standard servo, and that works fine with both the DX3.0 and the Helios, no problems?
Anyone got any ideas? I'd like to use the hitec as it's way better than the standard servo.....

The helios needs digital servo's, I'm guessing that the one you've got isn't.

Hmm...is there a setting on the Helios that I can change so it will play nicely with analog servo's?

As far as I know I don't think there is sorry mate. It's been a while since I had a helio though so I could be wrong.

Seemed to be ok with the standard steering servo in my B4RS?.....weird...Guess I'll have to replace the HS-65 with a digital version...more blooming expense!!

Hmm....might have solved it, there is a small switch behind where the module goes to switch between normal and high speed response. Apaprently from the looks of it then High speed response will likely only work with digital servo's. I'll flick that to normal later and see if that then means it all plays nicely!!

I had the same problem with my hitec hs-85 in my rc18r when usign my esprit III I changed the reposnce time down to normal aposed to ultra responce and it worked fine :)

Definately sounds like to fast a signal for the servo, all the symptoms are there.
That should fix it. Some Spektrum sets have an adjustable frame rate but I guess that may have been replaced on the DX3 with a switch.
Keep your fingers crossed you've not burnt the servo motor out ;)

Hopefully the servo is still ok, last thing i did was try it with the DX3.0 (Which clearly must be fine with analog or digital servo's then) and it worked without a problem.
Just with the Helios it wasn't keen. I'll switch to 'Normal' and try it. Good news that i can use it but I guess this means i miss out a little on the response speed? Hey-ho...

Is the high speed not supposed to be switched off when using 2.4?
Dont think its the servo mate

Hmm...not sure about it having to be off always when using 2.4, checked and can't see it mentioned in the Spektrum module manual, apart from a reference to the high speed response system in the 3PK. That gets a mention. As it's seems to be mentioned in the Helios manual then I'm guessing this must be more to do with the use of the Helios in HSR setting when using analog servo's. Not sure there are any links to not using HSR at all when using 2.4, just that to use HSR then you seem to really need to have digital servo's.
The Helios switched to HSR worked fine with the Atoms's ESC and as I say, worked fine also with my B4RS with the standard ESC and also the steering servo too....just ems it doesn't like the Hitec HS-65 in my Atom for steering. We'll see, I'll switch the Helios to normal speed tonight and see what happens.
