dBoots are proud to release to market their latest in 2wd & 4wd 10th Off Road “dBoots” tyre technology.

http://www.dboots.com/
The dBoots tyre range has been developed over the last 6 months and the first – Terrabyte – tyre is now available. We will have more designs available in the coming months for 10th scale, Short Course and 8th scale - so please keep your eyes on the website for further details.
The Terrabyte tyre is already the Control tyre for the Ardent Raceway Off Road Winter Series (http://www.ardentracing.com/teamdurangowinterseries/) and has successfully proved itself by setting TQ and the Win the first time out in the hands of Nathan Waters (TQ) and Adam Skelding (Win)

Is there a 2wd front version of this tyre?
Also do you know the price being charged at Ardent for the tyres?

Tyres look great!
To clarify, being the control tyre you MUST use these tyres at the Ardent winter series (i.e. Sunday)?

I thought the control tyre was either dBoots or Yellow Mini pins...?

It's NOT a must you have to run these! Schumacher Yellow Mini Pins are/were the control, untill these dBoots were released and now both can be run at Ardent!!
Dont forget 2wd can run ANY front tyre!!!

Toby is correct, I don't think I saw dBoots on anything other than Durango chassis at the last one Dan so don't worry mate.
I've ordered yellow pins for sunday

Thanks all.
As I say, they do look good!!!!
I can confirm they are good!
Tried them last Sunday at Bury Metro indoor meeting.
They had plenty of grip on the polished floor, and don't seem to wear out anywhere near as quick as Schey minipins.
Will be using them at Chadderton this Sunday.

So dboots are best on carpets like the minipins
What are they like on the Carpet, wear and tear, grip etc?
There just as good as Schey minipins on the carpet, loads of grip but also a little more forgiving at the same time. This made the transition from polished floor to high grip carpet easier and more consistent.
Craig
Awesome, might have to try a set!
What you using on the 2wd for front tyres?

Spaces available, just turn up.

For more info visit www.ardentracing.com/teamdurangowinterseries
Ive only tried them in 4wd but would imagine the should work fine in 2wd aswell. I'd prob use minipins on the front or staggers until they make their own 2wd fronts.

MultiBytes look cool to
http://www.rcdisco.com/part-info.php?partNo=DB1001RA
Looking forward to trying the terrabytes out down at our club. James Ambrose was doing some testing with them on his two wheel drive and they looked to have plenty of grip on the carpet.
I don't know how many rounds he ran them in but they looked really fresh at the end of the night.

I ran some today at ardent and on the carpet theyre insane! As much drive as pins but have the ability to drift a bit. But on the slippy section they felt next to hopeless. Maybe I need to adjust te setup of m car to suit but mini spikes were a good compromise, Pins were too edgey on the carpet and fine on the slippy, Dboots ace on the carpet, just right id say but poor on the slippy IMO and the mini spikes were bang in the middle of both on both sections.
Are any inserts included, if not, what do you use? I'd like to give them a try on our sandy Astroturf in Troisdorf and probably in Langenfeld, too. The 2WD fronts also look very interesting and should be easier to mount than stagger ribs...

No inserts included i use KWF foams from p dub racing or will be when i get them put on some rims !!
The guys at RC Disco recommended Edit purple or Schumacher Tubby inserts, which is what I ordered. I will only be able to test them in May/June, however...:(
dBoots will offer a line of inner foams in the future, too.

Anybody tried these on carpet yet, if so what were they like compared to mini pins in regards to grip and wear rate. Do they stay good until the end, or die off?

18-01-2011, 10:56 PM
i have run them on the rear of my x6 an they are really grippy on carpet and they hardly wear at all like hope this helps

I ran them last Wednesday at Denton on my X6 and Friday Leyland + Sunday Formby on my Doorongo. In comparison I'd choose them over Schuy mini pins. I feel they are a bit more grippy, but in a weird way more predictable, if that makes sense.<O:p</O:p
I was so impressed that I have just ordered a set of their new MultiByte tyres for the outdoors season. Keep in mind that I am a crap driver, so the more capable might find the handling of the tyres somewhat different.<O:p</O:p
I ran terrabyte's at York last sat on carpet and polished floor.
Pretty good on the carpet (but certainly not much better than pins) but utterly hopeless on the slippy floor. Would have been better without tyres at all...
I'll save them for outdoors!

I ran mine at Ludlow last night in the practice and I agree with Col. Completely useless on polished floor. When we use new pins they are the same until round 3 when they bed in so I'll keep using them to see if they get any better.
I swapped to pins and the car was on rails lol.

Ran them at moto arena last night, when they were new they had waaaaaay to much grip on the carpet, grip roll at the slighest amount of steering and a bit loose on the tarmac.
But when they wore down still had loads of grip on the carpet and as much grip on the tarmac as used mini spikes. seem to eb the best tyre i have used at the moto arena.
Think they are much more forgiving than mini pins.
think there a very good tyre

Ran a new set at Chadderton in 4WD on carpet / hall floor.
They were ok, nothing special, but pretty shot and worn by the end of the meeting. I'll be buying Schumacher pins next time, they last longer and for me that's very important.

21-02-2011, 12:22 PM
Has anyone actually been changing set up for these tyres when trying them? You shouldn't expect the tyres to work their best on the same setup you use for schueys
Yes I chnaged my setup as on slippery stuff they didnt have the same grip as minipins so increased camber by 1 deg all round.
burgie
21-02-2011, 12:37 PM
echo what andys has said.
i ran them at Chadderton and they were worn out by the end of the day. I have used them indoors at Formby High too, and they wear rate on a AC CR2 to me seemed high.
Plenty of grip from them though - the front tyres gave bcuket loads of grip without any hint of understeer. This, whilst being good for some drivers made the car too twitchy for me, so reverted to dboots on the back and schuey minipsikes upfront.
If the track has any slippy surfaces such as a polished floor on it though, these tyres are best avoided because they have no grip whatsoever on slippy stuff.

I tested the MultiBytes on astro at the weekend.
I blogged about it: http://rclazy.com/blog/2011/03/01/bootiful-dboots/
Do you use wide or cut-down/narrow front wheels on 2WD buggies?

I've been reliably informed by Simon he rolls wide.
But he carries it well.

Yes, wide.
Does that mean that I should trim the wheels down?
simoncrabb
26-03-2011, 08:47 PM
Narrow is trimming them down.
Wide is not trimmed.
That's crystal clear, I was just confused by the  and thought you didn't like it.
Thank's for your help! :)

The  was me being angry for being called fat. Private joke from makinwaves (my business partner in rcLazy, Mark).
Have ordered some multibytes, I think they'll work very well on my local track which is laid with outdoors carpet and astro, and on which spikes have not got enough forward traction but pins have too much side bite.

28-03-2011, 01:10 PM
Thanks for the order Fabs, and others.
Multibytes are flying out the door lately now the astro season has started, if you've not tried some yet give them a go, they're pretty awesome.

I tried a set at Coventry (astroturfed moon surface!) yesterday after the meeting and would say they slide similar to Balistics and have forward drive simialr to Yellow minis so a good alrounder, kind of the jack of all trades - master of none (Yellows would definitely be quicker if you could hang on to them, Ballistics would be easier to drive).
It was interesting to note though that you could really feel the extra rolling radius in quick direction changes .. car felt a little less stable than either yellows or ballistics had on the same section .... probably just a matter of resetting ride heights which is what I would have done next if I hadn't had to give them back.
The most interesting thing for me was the total lack of any wear (they had been on a lot of cars and done a lot of laps before I got my turn with them). I think this makes them just about the perfect practice /club tire as they give near enough representative performance campared to what you would normally run at an important meeting BUT would last a hell of a lot longer. Personally I think I will be sticking with yellows & ballistics for regionals though.
I'll be ordering a couple of sets for sure.

Only a tyre that's gripping will wear out though.....
Some can wear rapidly and others not quite as bad but if it's not wearing it's not working.....
I think people have this idea that someone somewhere will bring out a tyre that will never wear out - That is easily done but it just won't grip on anything :D
adam_u
30-03-2011, 09:52 AM
...but if they're producing a reasonable amount of grip due to the tread pattern itself rather than due to the 'stickiness' of the rubber surely it could be a good 'club-tyre' compromise?
Would snow chains ever wear out running only on snow? (genuine question)

No it sounds perfect to me anyway, i think it's great to have more tyres out there - the GRP's looked good but unfortunately they never quite broke the mass market, maybe these will - The key would be getting them in at a National!
Snow chains probably wouldn't wear, but they're not really gripping the same way a tyre would as they're metal for one thing so with the weight of the car they're physically digging into the surface of the snow, if you ran a Buggy with metal pins in the tyres on soft dirt and made the buggy heavy enough to push them in they obviously wouldn't wear out either, but a Rubber Tyre gripping on a surface has to wear out if it's gripping well - That's why TR32's and Full Spikes never wear out in wet mud as they physically dig into the ground to give grip, they're not sliding or using the compound to get traction but just the spike itself so it's a different sort of grip if that makes sense.
markwilliamson2001
30-03-2011, 06:48 PM
Yeah...minipins wear out so quickly on high grip carpet, as you are almost forcing them to slide to make the car driveable....
Agree with Nick here :-)
RogerM
31-03-2011, 07:13 AM
Yes, grip comes from the tread surface moving as it is loaded up ... wear comes from the tread surfacce moving as it is loaded up.
I have always said you can tell a car that is working well as it wears it's tires equally, a car with high wear on the front is understeering, higher wear on the rear is oversteering (4wd ... 2wd should be about 2/3rds the wear as all it is doing is steering).
That said the dBoots I tried seemed to give "reasonable" grip and seemed to offer (relatively) low wear. I think you could use them as a practice / club tire quite happily for probably 20-25 runs without too much of a performance drop off. Normally find 5 to 10 runs is enough to finish a yellow mini spike.
Bolting a set of fresh yellows on would give a significant decrease in lap times though I would have thought compared to the dBoots.

Hi there, can anyone tell me which inserts I have to try in my 2wd front tires (dBoots Terrabytes). Do you drive inserts in front tyres at all? Or don't you (as it is usual for Schumacher Staggers)?
Best regards from Berlin

Just to let everyone know I've not wasted my money... It turns out that terrabytes are awesome in my back garden for chasing the cat/kids/dog around!
p.s. I've got snee blue inserts alround in mine.

how do these compare in hardness to a pro-line m3?
Big G
21-05-2011, 01:58 PM
Been running multi-byte at my local club on grass for the last 2 weeks and the car runs faster and more consistent over yellows or bb greens. yellows could return a single lap near enough the same, but dboots could return 10 laps all within 0.5 of eachother.
