Are you on windows 7? I struggled with mine until someone said to run the compatibility mode and run as win XP, then was fine.

got this from novak, and it cured my problem
Here's the walk through that has been working.
Remove all Novalink from hard drive (drive C) and from documents section.
Download from Novak site "Novalink_Software_1.4.zip" under the Novalink Software on home page.
You must hit "Save" instead of "open". Hit "save" again to begin saving process.
After program has saved hit "open" to open saved files. Go to "Drivers" and "Extract All". After the drivers are extracted you need to hit "drivers" again to installer drivers onto computer.
Plug in USB cord into USB slot on PC before installation of drivers. Driver installation will begin.
Update The NovaLink Device
Download Novalink_Device_Updater.zip from Novak site.
You will need to hit "save" instead of "open". After saving then hit "open" to open file. Unzip file and hit "update" on pop up window.
Plug and then unplug USB so the Device drivers can be installed. Hit "close" to close pop up window and finish installation.
Then select "Installer" on Navalink 1.4 then "dataI" hit "run" to begin installer of Novalink 1.4. Close after installation.
Go to Novak homepage to download "Kinetic Firmware".
Download Kinetic_Firmware_1.4zip (Self-Extractor).
Hit "save" then "open". Double click to unzip file.
Download Kinetic_Firmware_1.4zip (Standalone RDD File) Hit "Save" then "Open". This will bring up "outloada14.rrd" you need to move this file from the "documents section to the NovaLink file on Drive C. To do that you will need to open "Computer" under the Start menu. Choose Drive C then "Program Files" then "Novak Electronics". This will bring you to the "NovaLink" file folder. You will need to drag and drop the outloada14.rdd file to the "NovaLink" file foler.
Go to the "desktop" and double click the NovaLink icon to bring up NovaLink. Choose the "Launch Firmware Updater" icon on the top left of the NovaLink page. Plug in ESC and let NovaLink take care of the rest!
