I'm in the process of purchasing new ESC's for both my race cars, the B4.1 and B44.1. In my old rides I have a Speed Passion GT in the B4, and an Orion Vortex for the B44. The SpeedPassion is bored beyond belief, but the Orion is really ready for some eggs and bacon to fry. I have no idea why my B44 renders the Orion this hot, and I've tried different pinions to lighten the load. I've noticed that even the motormount is extremely hot. Even hotter than the motor itself. Tried timing the motor down - no luck, still hot. In the end I had to fit cooling ribs and a fan for the B44. That really should not be needed with a Novak Ballistic 6.5 turn.
Guess the question is this - which ESC is the one to have for buggies these days? I like a smooth and gentle power curve to cater for slippery tracks.

the new speed passions are pretty good, and super smooth. Also a damn site cheaper than the LRP's!

I like my old SpeedPassion GT 1.1, but I'm wondering how the new line will hold up against 4wd high-tracktion carpet racing with a 6.5 turn. That's pretty intense on the ESC. Also, isn't SpeedPassion basically a rebranded Hobbywing ESC?

Yes I think they are hobbywing speedos basically, but they are extremely good. A 6.5 will be no problem for a GT2.

If you have cash then Tekin RS pro if you are a little short XERUN 120A with a setting box, both are fully adjustable and will work great.

I've been thinking about the Tekin, as I do have a Hotwire after using the Tekin RX8 in my 8th buggies. I am a bit concerned about buying them though, as I've heard they have some BEC issues. Wouldn't want to have to use an external BEC to power servos...

Novak GTB2!
Cost 99$, has more adjustability than most others, takes all sorts of motors, isn't all that big, has silicone seals, a finish only Novak can do, No internetshithookup to go wrong, excellent customer service:)
And did I mention driveability? The last year I've had LRP, Nosram, Hobbywing, Orion, ZTW and Losi. The Novak is not extremely much better, but it's definitely among the absolute best I've tried.

Heh. Nifty choice. I've had the GTB once I think. Like 5 years ago in a Tamiya 415. That price is seriously good value. I might actually have to take advice from you this time Martin.
On a different note - doesn't the new LRP SXX TC V2 look the part? :D Only twice the cost of a GTB too.

At that price I would have bought one yesterday. I still run an original GTB with separate lipo cutoff and I think it is great. $100 = £62 but CML sells them for £115! I try to buy from UK model shops where possible, but that is an obscene mark up!

Have you considered the HobbyWing (basically Speed Passion Esc)? The top spec unit can be had for around £100 from the link in my sig, thats 2/3rds the price of the equivelent Speed Passion unit. Speak to Stuart, he's a top bloke!
